Community Outreach Specialist Posting Number: TMP03720PO25 | Location: Spartanburg, SC | Job Type: Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

The Community Outreach Specialist will support the Office of Service-Learning and Community Engagement (SL/CE) by cultivating internship and service-learning opportunities primarily in nonprofits in Spartanburg County; organizing events for students, faculty, staff, and community members; publicizing programming and successes; providing community engagement information to on-campus and off-campus constituents; and maintaining community engagement software and website.

Responsibilities

Support community partner relationship management across the relationship cycle for internships, service learning, and other educational opportunities, including cultivation, development of productive internship sites, recognition of partners, maintenance, and partnership assessment. Generate 3–4 community partnerships per week.

Track community engagement (including internships, service learning, and other types of engagement) to support the University’s efforts to secure the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification. Administer USC Upstate’s Community Engagement tracking and reporting software which provides data for programmatic assessment.

Coordinate and provide logistical support for ongoing SL/CE program efforts with internships and community‑engaged class programming, including management of student workers doing related tasks.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and one or more years of experience in community engagement. Successful background check is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with nonprofit organizations in the Upstate region and with Service‑Learning as a student and/or in a supporting role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent written, oral, and digital communication skills with a demonstrated culturally respectful communication style; handles confidential information appropriately; establishes and maintains effective relationships between the institution (faculty and students) and the community; utilizes project coordination skills; effectively multi‑tasks and completes work with minimal supervision; working knowledge of basic data collection and analysis with ability to organize data and report findings.
