POSITION SUMMARY The
Senior Mechanical Estimator
focuses on company‑wide success in adherence to MCC Standards and all pre‑construction activities necessary for the preparation and undertaking of Manhattan’s pre‑construction services related to the mechanical scope of work. The position is responsible for compiling estimates, guiding owners, and driving precon deliverables to budget. This role requires a flexible and adaptable team player with strong communication and client service skills, ownership, and confidence.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend client/design meetings.
Make assignments for mechanical / fire protection scopes of work.
Solicit vendors.
Utilize BIM for quantity take‑offs.
Develop bid strategies for projects.
Create subcontractor solicitation lists.
Ensure coverage for all scopes of work.
Deliver constructability review, system analysis, and value management.
Delegate scope assignments.
Compile & review all tab sheets.
Lead tab sheet review.
Assist with negotiating subcontracts and purchasing.
Manage turnover or transition meetings.
Develop mechanical / fire protection portions for owner deliverables.
Assist in value management exercises.
Assist in project reviews for quality/installational completeness.
Maintain Guiding Principles and match the Way We Work attributes.
Other duties as assigned.
JOB SKILLS & ABILITIES GUIDELINES
Knowledge and efficiency in Manhattan software.
Strong networking ability.
Strong conceptual estimating skills.
Experience delivering pre‑construction services and managing the budget.
Familiarity with logistics and operations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong math/accounting skills.
Ability to meet critical deadlines.
Maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
Time management and organizational skills.
Ability to understand and follow directions.
Ability to read drawings and specifications.
Ability to accurately obtain quantities & compile estimates.
Knowledge of Autodesk software.
Knowledge of estimating & takeoff software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent. Substitution of education with experience on a one‑to‑one basis is acceptable.
8 years of industry experience.
Experience with mechanical scope of work (subcontractor/design firm).
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS
Ability to stand, bend, sit, squat for long periods.
Repeating movements as necessary.
Effective communication in meetings, video conferences, and calls.
Hand use for typing, handling, controlling, or feeling objects, tools.
Occasional lifting, pulling, or moving up to 25 lbs.
Occasional travel, primarily metropolitan but sometimes domestic. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
