Low Vision Rehabilitation - Bioscientific Staff

GENERAL SUMMARY
Works collaboratively with the Medical Director of the Henry Ford Health Center for Vision Rehabilitation to provide individuals with vision impairment opportunities for increased safety, independence and quality of life via world‑class low vision care while achieving office productivity and performance goals. Directly reports to the Chair, Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Care Services.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Comprehensive low vision case management
Provide low vision consultations
Interdisciplinary collaboration
With HFH Center for Vision Rehabilitation occupational therapists
With other vision rehabilitation entities or professionals – including but not limited to agencies for the blind and visually impaired, orientation and mobility specialists, social workers, and certified driving rehabilitation specialists.
Specialty contact lens fitting if necessary to maximize visual function
Work with the Medical Director of Vision rehabilitation to maintain proper professional staffing and coverage within the clinic.
Professional growth – Complete Michigan Optometric Low Vision Certification and American Academy of Optometry Fellowship
Compliance with continuing education requirements to maintain a license to practice optometry in the State of Michigan.
Support ancillary staff training programs
Support practice building programs
Develop and support new relationships both inside and outside of HFH
Attend regularly scheduled office and staff meetings
Act as a role model for other staff
Embrace best practices to ensure that we are providing the highest possible level of professional care.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Successful completion of the program from a school of Optometry.
Previous direct patient care experience.
Experience in low vision rehabilitation, preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURES REQUIRED
Licensed as an Optometrist in the State of Michigan.
