The
Recreational Activities Coordinator
is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing recreational activities and programs in the Rec Room each morning, ensuring the overall effective functioning of the recreational program and providing a consistent structured presence with the program. The incumbent promotes the optimal development of children and adolescents through the facilitation of social group activities.
Provide consistent onsite leadership of the Rec Room, overseeing the daily schedule of activities, printing patient schedules, checking safety equipment, and ensuring the successful organization and execution of daily morning recreational activities for groups of children.
Design, develop, and implement a diverse range of group activities tailored to the needs and interests of pediatric patients, including arts and crafts, games, and sports.
Collaborate with recreational therapists to ensure activities are safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.
Facilitate patient participation in activities that encourage social interaction and reduce the stress of being in the hospital.
Create a welcoming and inclusive play environment that encourages participation and fosters a sense of normalcy and fun; effectively manage behavioral challenges and foster a positive and cooperative group environment.
Maintain and organize Rec Room supplies, ensuring all materials are clean, safe, and in good condition.
Monitor and document the progress and participation of children in activities, providing feedback to medical and therapeutic teams as needed.
Support and train volunteers assisting in the Rec Room, ensuring they understand and follow hospital policies and procedures.
Assist with planning and coordinating special events, such as holiday celebrations, themed parties, and visits from entertainers.
Communicate with various afternoon staff to provide updates from the morning and support the effective and efficient coordination of care for children in the program.
EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Recreation Therapy, Education, or a related field required.
EXPERIENCE Minimum two years of experience with pediatric population in hospital, structured recreation, or educational setting required.
