Position Summary Under general supervision of the Assistant Director, the Sales Manager for Visit McKinney is responsible for proactively marketing McKinney as a premier destination for meetings, conventions, group travel, and special events. This role serves as a brand ambassador, building relationships with meeting planners, associations, corporations, tour operators and group organizers to generate room nights and support economic growth for McKinney's hospitality community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Implement sales and promotional plans and strategies to solicit business from corporate, association, SMERF (Social, Military, Education, Religious, Fraternal), sports, tour and group travel markets with an emphasis on increasing hotel and venue utilization.
Contact potential clients, respond promptly to leads and inquiries, and maintain continuous client contact to encourage repeat business and build long‑term relationships.
Prepare, present, and deliver customized proposals, bid packets, contracts, and pricing for meetings, events, group bookings and conventions. Follow up with clients throughout the bid and booking process to secure business.
Schedule, plan, and conduct site inspections, familiarization (FAM) tours, and property visits with meeting planners and clients including hotels, venues, off‑site event spaces, attractions, and other local amenities to promote McKinney as a destination.
Represent Visit McKinney at industry trade shows, conferences, networking events, and sales missions. Prepare and manage marketing materials, display exhibits, and coordinate outreach efforts.
Maintain and manage a detailed client contact database, track all leads, sales activity, site visits, and bookings; provide regular sales reports and updates to leadership.
Collaborate with local hotels, venues, attractions, and stakeholders to coordinate availability, service delivery, and build strong cross‑sector partnerships that benefit the destination.
Contribute to the development of annual sales and marketing plans and budgets; monitor expenditures and ensure cost‑effective use of resources.
Participate in regular meetings with the Visit McKinney team and relevant stakeholders to align goals, share market intelligence, and maintain consistent, high‑quality service and follow‑through.
Be flexible and available to work outside standard business hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, and travel as needed for site visits, events, and trade shows.

Proven track record of generating leads, converting business, and meeting or exceeding room‑night, booking, and revenue targets.
Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills; ability to negotiate, build consensus, and maintain relationships at multiple stakeholder levels with professionalism and integrity.
Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM systems (Simpleview) to manage leads, bookings, reports, and contacts.
Manage multiple projects and priorities under tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment; strong organizational and follow‑through skills.
Flexibility with schedule; willing to work outside typical business hours when needed for events, site visits, familiarization tours, or trade shows.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Five (5) years of experience in hospitality sales, CVB or convention & visitors bureau sales, hotel sales / event coordination, or related business development in the hospitality/tourism industry.
Any work‑related experience that results in acceptable proficiency levels in the above minimum qualifications is an acceptable substitute.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a drug screen and background check.
Must have Class C Texas driver’s license.
Physical Demands May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry and vision monitoring. May be subject to extended periods of standing, bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting such as setting up for meetings and events, transporting materials and supplies for presentations and programs.
Work Environment Primarily office‑based, but frequent travel (daytime and overnight) is required for site visits, trade shows, client meetings, and sales missions. Flexible schedule including occasional evenings, weekends, and participation in major events or group functions.
