About This Role Axsome Therapeutics is searching for a Field Reimbursement Director that will be responsible for successfully hiring and leading a newly created team of Field Reimbursement Managers that will partner with internal and external stakeholders to remove access barriers, provide pull‑through and issue resolution. Upon hiring the FRM team, this role will be primarily responsible for the supervision and leadership of the FRM team.
This is a cross‑functional front‑line leader role is field‑based and will require travel to develop team and expand internal and external relationships.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
Hire and lead FRM Region which includes driving results, coaching, developing team members, and managing performance
Attract, develop, empower, and retain people by rewarding and recognizing performance using innovative approaches to recognition and minimizing attrition
Develop and implement regional, territory, and account business plans utilizing the right balance of live/virtual interactions and the prioritization of efforts by the FRM team
Effectively plan, lead, and conduct plan of action and meetings with Market Access National Account Directors (NADs), Market Access Account Directors (ADs), and Patient Services
Consistently exemplify the ability to help FRMs improve their consultative skills, account management, and capabilities needed for success through coaching. Lead by example through coaching direct reports both in-person and through virtual engagements
Establish positive working relationships and frequent communication with cross‑functional members across the Region, including Sales and Market Access teams, as well as core internal stakeholders
Maintain required technical expertise to respond accurately to questions regarding payer access, policies, and business‑related issues from customers and sales, as well as patient support solutions
Expert on Axsome Therapeutics patient support programs, payer utilization management, access issue resolution, and financial assistance
Advise in the development of tools and resources needed to support FRM team
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all relevant compliance laws, policies and processes and ensure actions of self and team are fully compliant
Compliantly enable FRMs to work collaboratively with Managed Markets and Sales to resolve patient access obstacles and issues. Communicate access concerns and issues with appropriate internal stakeholders, including Managed Markets
Complete administrative duties in an accurate and timely fashion
Overnight travel as indicated by the needs of the business
Additional responsibilities as assigned
Requirements / Qualifications
BA or BS required. Advanced degree preferred
Minimum of 10 years of healthcare, field customer and/or account management experience in the pharmaceutical industry with a minimum of 3 years in field leadership experience and/or payer account management with increasing responsibility and organizational leadership
Proven record of attracting, retaining, and developing top talent with ability to quickly assemble and develop a high performing experienced team
Previous experience working in an entrepreneurial environment with launch experience is preferred
Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, communication and leadership skills required
Experience and understanding of the ever‑changing payer environment and its impact on patient access to medications
Must be an energetic, driven dynamic leader
Must live within the territory’s geography
Ability to travel up to 50‑75% required, which will include overnight travel
All reimbursement activities must be conducted and managed within all appropriate legal and regulatory guidelines and require continuous monitoring of compliance with such guidelines and laws
Experience and Knowledge
Current or recent CNS experience strongly preferred
Ability to run multiple tasks concurrently under aggressive timelines in a dynamic environment
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
Comfortable with uncertaintyand lofty expectations
Salary and Benefits The anticipated salary range for this role is $200,000 - $235,000. We encourage candidates of all levels to apply as there may be flexibility on final job title and responsibilities. The salary offer will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications, internal equity and location. Axsome offers a competitive employment package that includes an annual bonus, significant equity and a generous benefits package.
