Counter Sales Representative (Open)
Location: San Leandro, CA – Retail shop
About the Role Airgas is hiring a Counter Sales Representative in San Leandro, CA. The role involves selling industrial, medical and specialty gases, welding equipment, power and hand tools, paint and other supplies. The representative advises customers on tools, hardware, and materials, demonstrates use, and arranges delivery of cylinders and hard goods.
Responsibilities
Adhere to company safety policies and use personal protective equipment.
Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Complete all required paperwork accurately, including coding, costing, and pricing.
Advise customers on tools, hardware, and materials needed and demonstrate use.
Process order entry, process cash and charge orders, and assist with reconciling cash and bank deposits.
Communicate by phone, email, and in person with customers, sales staff, store managers, and others to provide information on cost, ordering, and delivery times.
Develop an outgoing call strategy and make outgoing calls to support sales growth for the branch.
Obtain or transfer merchandise requested by customers to and from other locations.
Answer customer questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise.
Total price and tax on merchandise purchased by customers, accept payment, make change, wrap or bag merchandise, and assist in loading and unloading cylinders.
Arrange delivery of cylinders and hard goods.
Maintain a neat, clean, and professional personal appearance.
Coordinate with the purchasing department for product shortages or outages.
Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with customers, vendors, co‑workers, and management.
Observe all administrative and accounting procedures.
Stock shelves, warehouse, counters, and tables with merchandise and maintain showroom displays.
Perform any reasonable work request that falls within the qualifications.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of one to three years of experience in an industrial retail, inside sales, customer service and/or inventory control related position.
Detailed understanding of SAP and PROS functionalities preferred.
Must be able to work occasional overtime when necessary.
Must be able to operate in a drug‑free workplace.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
Clear communication skills via phone, email, or in person with customers, sales staff, branch manager, and all other branch personnel.
Basic computer skills (Google Suite – Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, etc.).
Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
May be required to operate a forklift in the warehouse.
Ability to read and comprehend safety data sheets.
