Summary The Customer Manager is a sales expert focused on building and executing strategic plans for designated customers, ensuring joint business plan execution and maintaining high client standards. The role collaborates closely with Key Account Managers (KAMs), order entry, claims, retail sales associates, and other stakeholders to bridge the relationship between KAM teams and customer stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Drive client business at assigned customers, increasing distribution, sales dollars/units/share, and other KPIs while staying within budget guidelines.
Manage and coordinate sales activities through customer sales analysis, planning, and presentation.
Serve as conduit between customers, KAMs, and clients through product line presentations, new item introductions, and display selling.
Manage and delegate KAM and client divisional initiatives, including parity pricing, business trackers, photo requests, and special requests.
Secure timely and accurate responses from customers to the KAM team and client promotion forecast.
Recommend selling strategies to grow and build long‑term business.
Attend and present in client meetings and management team meetings.
Conduct and manage customer meetings focused on client promotional events, displays, and other initiatives.
Build relationships with buyers and support departments at customer, working with KAM to recommend growth plans, execute plans, and assist with tactical issues such as purchase orders, cost changes, contract execution, and ensuring retail/merchandising execution.
Develop and leverage relationships with key influencers and decision makers in assigned customers.
Sell displays, period promotions, present business reviews, and introduce new items.
Build and present product distributions based on previous performance using customer scan data.
Present pricing disparities in assigned customers based on client recommendations, achieving parity pricing inline versus competition.
Take weekly photos based on client requests and needs.
Acquire weekly pricing for clients based on their product(s).
Meet or exceed client goals for sales, distribution, share, pricing, shelving, and promotional volume.
Launch strategies to pursue new opportunities.
Achieve sales goals by managing and maximizing manufacturer marketing and promotional funds while staying within financial guidelines.
Ensure all retail pricing and indirect order guides within the division are updated by regularly correcting discrepancies.
Secure client approved schematics for all brands by providing direction and communication to schematic, reset, and retail departments.
Ensure incremental sales through distribution of new products and maintenance of existing SKUs.
Collaborate with category management team to develop retailer presentations using database rationale such as SKU optimization, promotion causal data, and lift analysis.
Manage accounts to achieve the targeted ACV on Innovation.
Build and maintain effective client and retailer relationships to ensure customer access and client perspective.
Demonstrate sales accomplishments and areas of opportunity by developing sales presentations for customers and clients.
Implement client HQ calls and demonstrate capability to penetrate key positions at the retailer.
Offer strategic input pursuant to annual business plans, problem solving, ongoing customer management, and drive win/win scenarios.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
2‑4 years in sales or retail experience and knowledge of CPG industry.
Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge and experience with designated customers preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire.
Good interpersonal skills and conflict management skills.
Excellent decision‑making and judgment skills.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web browsers.
Ability to work effectively with management and ensure a high level of service and quality.
