Primary Responsibilities

Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely

Initiate and/or make recommendation regarding the hiring, firing, discipline, promotion, and evaluation of all Deli Department personnel. Assist in the orienting and training of all new Deli Department employees and retrain employees when necessary

Ensure the safety of self, customers, and co‑workers by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying a supervisor of any potential hazard immediately

Understand the operation, safety requirements and restraints of an electronic cash register, scanner, scale and intercom system

Review the perishable department Communication Board daily for updated materials and follow the guidelines posted for the Sampling Program and intercom announcements

Prepare/organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receipt of merchandise, unload trucks, verify the merchandise against the invoice, inspect the delivery for shortages/damage

Develop a weekly labor schedule for all Deli Department employees for the approval of the store manager

Order all deli products and supplies from authorized vendors to minimize out‑of‑stocks while maintaining the desired deli turns

Adhere to all county, state and federal health regulations and codes instructing supervised personnel to comply

Supervise/perform/organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receipt of merchandise, verify the merchandise against the invoice, inspect the delivery for shortages/damage and quality, sort cases for stocking or product preparation and code‑date all case items in the cooler/freezer

Communicate with the store manager on problems, recommendations for change, effectiveness of plans and merchandising decisions

Supervise/perform the preparation, display and packaging of all products in the deli department

Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by the store manager, substitute for absent workers, and perform any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to customers

Supervision Received Assistant Deli Managers report to the Deli Manager and Store Manager.

Qualifications

Above and Beyond Customer Service

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Prior supervisory experience

Prior cashier experience

Specific Tasks

Work on tile or concrete for a maximum of 8 hours in duration

Supervise/perform the checking of case and cooler temperatures four times daily utilizing the time‑keeping system to record each check

Implement the weekly display plan for display/table/case merchandising and ad promotion

Fill/stock sliced meat and cheese case, salad case, other display cases, and counter/displays throughout the store; sort cases for stocking or product preparation and code‑date all case items in the cooler/freezer

Wrap, package and sell sandwiches, pizza, salads, sliced fruits, vegetables, sliced meats, cheese, desserts, party trays, garnishes, vegetables, samples and fried foods

Clean department floors, mirrors, containers, cooler, shelves, slicer, fryer, production area, equipment and cases; safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals

Work Environment Inside work with transitions of heat, cold, humidity and dust from opening of entrance and exit doors.
