Our programs include small business lending, affordable housing financing, clean energy and water projects, and Private Activity Bonds. As an economic development financial institution we work across a number of domains to improve the quality of life for our community. We are seeking an energetic, mission-oriented, and financially-savvy professional to help us build our growing portfolio of commercial real estate and climate finance programs. These programs include EarthWise, Good Energy Loan Fund, a new Neighborhood Catalyst Fund focused on missing middle and infill development. There will be significant opportunities for on-the-job training and long term growth, but the right candidate brings to the table a bright analytical and finance-oriented mind, the ability to learn complex topics quickly, and the drive to close deals efficiently. The work demands attention to detail, multitasking, and excellent communication skills. Position Summary
The Commercial Credit & Climate Finance Lead will focus on growing our portfolio companies and programs related to economic development of the built environment, which includes real estate transactions and climate investments. Our work ranges from affordable housing, commercial projects, and infrastructure opportunities. We leverage a variety of financial tools to complete our mission including gap financing, term loans, and bonds. The right candidate has a strong handle on how projects of various sizes are financed, experience reviewing, evaluating, and developing models and pro-formas with exceptional attention to detail, analysis and judgement. As a business development role, this position requires excellent communication, project management, and organization to ensure deals do not fall between the cracks. This role will cultivate relationships with homeowners, developers, nonprofits, municipalities, and other stakeholders; evaluate financing proposals; and manage projects from development to ongoing servicing. The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about how the built environment can be used to solve big challenges facing our community and is eager to participate in the emerging field of climate finance. Key Responsibilities
Business Development
Under the guidance of the CEO, support business development activities such as identifying, cultivating, and securing new lending and bond opportunities with developers, municipalities, and other partners. Contribute to strategies to grow and maintain a fresh pipeline of active projects Represent the organization at industry events, panels, and conferences to promote programs and identify deal flow. Coming up to speed quickly on our products and services and the ability to articulate them to potential customers. Capital Deployment
Source, structure, and participate in underwriting real estate, infrastructure, and clean energy loans in accordance with organizational policies and risk standards with the support of a financial advisory team. Analyze borrower capacity, project feasibility, collateral, and repayment sources with the support of a financial advisory team. Prepare and present credit memos and recommendations for internal review and board approval with the support of a financial advisory team. Approach lending situations with an analyst mindset. Maintain strong borrower relationships throughout the life of the deal Monitor portfolio performance, proactively address risks, and ensure ongoing compliance. Coordinate with servicing teams to ensure timely reporting, disbursement, and issue resolution. Project Management
Support with the development and implementation of financial programs to meet the needs of our community. Collaborate with internal teams to align the fund’s goals with organizational impact, compliance, and reporting requirements. Achieve targets and key metrics of success for capital deployment and fund health. Ensure that all funder requirements are met, reporting is timely and accurate, and compliance data is updated Facilitate a loan committee setting meetings, providing credit memos, and guiding effective discussions Qualifications
Required Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, real estate, public administration, or related field, OR equivalent professional experience 3- 5 years’ experience in finance, lending, community development finance, real estate development, or related field. Exceptional project management skills which includes attention to detail, professional multitasking, and follow through Strong financial analysis, underwriting, and/or deal structuring skills. Knowledge of development, real estate finance, and/or clean energy infrastructure. Proven ability to cultivate and maintain partnerships with developers, municipalities, and industry stakeholders. Excellent communication and presentation skills Preferred Familiarity with public finance tools Experience with real estate and other hard-asset lending programs. Experience with climate financing This position is based in Tucson, Arizona. Some travel within Arizona and occasional out-of-state travel may be required.
