Externship Overview The AbbVie EXCEL Externship is a two‑day, unpaid immersive experience for sophomore students interested in future internships with AbbVie. Students will be at AbbVie's Headquarters in Lake County, IL during the Summer of 2026 to:
Get immersed in AbbVie’s culture
Gain hands‑on experience in a variety of key business areas
Build an extended network of AbbVie representatives, senior leaders, and students from across the country
Participate in cross‑functional professional development opportunities
Learn more about AbbVie’s career opportunities
Be considered for an internship for the following summer
AbbVie will provide travel, transportation, and lodging for eligible students.
Career Path This externship serves as a key pipeline for the Pharmaceutical Sales Internship. Externship participants are strongly considered for internship opportunities within Pharmaceutical Sales for the following year. Successful interns will be considered for full‑time Pharmaceutical Sales field‑based opportunities upon graduation.
Basic Qualifications
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, pharmacy, business related field, or equivalent.
Expected graduation date between December 2027 and July 2028.
Will be able to complete a 10‑ to 12‑week on‑site internship during the fall semester.
Interest and ability to relocate to AbbVie’s Lake County, IL internship location.
Preferred Qualifications
Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
Basic healthcare or biotech industry knowledge.
Strong communication skills with ability to adapt to many different scenarios.
Self‑motivated with high levels of discipline.
Basic to intermediate experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
Excellent problem‑solving, written, and verbal skills.
Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and project management skills.
Proven track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation, initiative, and integrity.
Interest in a sales career that requires strong clinical acumen.
Planning and organization skills.
