Handling multi‑state sales/use tax recovery projects for large, sophisticated organizations takes more than just a technical understanding of current sales and use tax rules. As a Sales and Use Tax Manager assigned to EY’s Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review Center of Excellence (COE), you’ll build and apply your knowledge on a wide range of sales and use tax recovery projects for clients in multiple industries. The opportunity Our Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review COE is a national team that leads large multi‑state, sales and use tax recovery projects for EY’s largest clients. It’s here you’ll find everything you need to continue to develop as a multi‑state salesperson. It’s all about taking on new skills and responsibilities and making the most of our dedicated mentors and training programs.

Your Key Responsibilities There’s no average day for a Sales and Use Tax Manager in the COE, so you’ll likely spend your time on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities and tasks. Whatever you’re working on, our clients will turn to you for up‑to‑the‑minute tax advice they can always rely on.

Collaborate with colleagues to provide timely tax advice.

Research clients’ business operations and build long‑lasting relationships.

Identify applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions.

Discover potential overpayment opportunities or risks and communicate them.

Monitor current tax law changes to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor.

Develop clear, intelligent plans and approaches for sales and use tax recoveries.

Prepare and defend sales and use tax refund claims.

Participate in a motivated team of professionals.

Manage a motivated team, guaranteeing they have skills and opportunities to reach their full potential.

Skills and Attributes for Success

Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools.

Experience managing budgets, people and projects.

A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.

Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.

The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.

Strong influencing skills, and the confidence to question existing processes.

Willingness to travel as needed and working in a balanced hybrid environment.

Qualifications – Must Have

A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.

Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools.

Experience managing budgets, people and projects.

A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.

Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.

The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.

Strong influencing skills, and the confidence to question existing processes.

Willingness to travel as needed and working in a balanced hybrid environment.

You’ll Also Have

An achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or be a member of a state bar.

What We Offer You

A comprehensive compensation and benefits package, with a base salary range for this role in all geographic locations in the US of $105,100 to $192,600.

Additional salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) of $126,100 to $218,900.

Hybrid work model: most external, client‑serving roles to work together in person 40‑60% of the time.
