Class B Lineman - Underground (Oncor) – Pike Corporation
Job Description Position Summary:
The Class B Lineman Underground is a semi‑skilled position involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. The role works at various locations and may require travel to other states depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions
Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de‑energized underground systems.
String overhead wire.
Set poles and anchors.
Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
Troubleshoot primary and secondary systems.
Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
Work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect lives.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
Perform all related work as required to complete the job.
Perform rigorous physical labor.
Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
Understand induced voltage.
Use a load buster tool.
Install and hook up a single‑phase transformer.
Set poles safely.
Understand equipment set up and grounding.
Work at heights and/or confined spaces.
Properly install and remove PPE and cover‑ups.
Check voltage on transformers.
Tie in a primary conductor.
Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) with necessary tools.
Phase out a line using phasing sticks.
Obtain a one‑shot on a recloser.
Conduct a pre‑job or tailgate briefing.
Glove or work live on high voltage distribution power lines.
Install and remove mechanical jumpers.
Minimum Requirements
3‑year minimum of recent field experience.
Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
Travel long distances on short notice when required.
Work for extended periods in various locations when required.
Lift in excess of 50 lbs.
Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly.
Work overtime when requested.
Work outside in inclement weather.
Follow company safety rules and all other company policies.
Work outside normal schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
Physical Demands Regularly required to talk or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Occasionally exposed to extreme conditions at construction sites. Noise level is loud. Work performed in outside weather conditions.
