The Account Executive – College sells to Higher Education faculty within a designated geographical territory. With a hunter mentality, their objective is to grow market share by establishing new business with Sage Vantage, myBusinessCourse, and other digital or print content that meets course needs. The ideal candidate is an independent, self‑starter who conducts well‑structured consultative sales calls, persuasively demonstrates technology product capabilities, and establishes relationships with faculty members and other customers to gain new business and grow revenue. They are confident, persuasive, and capable of systematically managing a large geographic territory through in‑person and virtual sales techniques. Sage Account Executives maintain the sales database (MSCRM), allowing them to track account growth and renewal activities, supporting successful adoption of new materials, digital product renewals, and expansion of the current base of Sage products. The position is based in Wisconsin with overnight travel of 20‑25% during the prime selling season.

Responsibilities

Conduct quality sales calls and gather Vantage demonstrations through professional selling techniques.

Position Sage as a strategic business partner within social science and business departments by actively listening to customer needs.

Travel to assigned campuses during selling seasons; overnight travel and more than 40 hours per week may be required.

Schedule well‑planned campus appointments, video calls, telephone, and email exchanges to progress the territory pipeline and capture new market share.

Identify, qualify, and aggressively pursue new sales leads in the assigned territory while expanding existing business into recurring revenue models.

Deploy key sales tools, using insights to accelerate pipeline movement.

Grow market share each selling season through strong internal partnerships, personal drive, and resilience.

Demonstrate Sage technology and use sales enablement tools in sales calls.

Maintain accurate data in the CRM system, updating the pipeline daily.

Persistently and purposefully grow the Sage business, ensuring a strong presence in the market.

Product and Market Knowledge

Collect and communicate market feedback and product information to Product, Technology, and Sales Management teams.

Develop deep product knowledge through learning programs to articulate value propositions in a competitive landscape.

Address objections and misconceptions, answering prospective customer questions independently or with internal specialists.

Provide Product teams with market development leads, faculty advocates, and potential textbook authors.

Planning, Reporting, and Database Maintenance

Lead generation: identify courses, decision makers, enrollments, and product usage in targeted course markets.

Prioritize opportunities in the CRM to optimize revenue.

Plan campus outreach via trips, video calls, and phone calls.

Complete expense reports on time and manage annual travel and expense budgets.

Conference Attendance / Business Travel

Full‑day overnight travel required to key accounts two or more hours away during active selling times.

Attend bi‑annual sales meetings and other company‑wide meetings.

Customer / Author Relations

Provide excellent customer service, delivering information, resources, and troubleshooting promptly.

Ensure positive experiences and images of the company when engaging customers and authors.

Cross‑sell and referral sell within the existing base of business.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with evidence of high academic achievement.

Demonstrated record of success in academic and professional settings.

2–4+ years of sales experience with a creative, persuasive, strategic, and persistent demeanor.

Hunter mentality, self‑reliant, and success–oriented.

Strong technology demonstration skills.

Proficient with PC environment, Microsoft Office, database applications, and PowerPoint.

Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.

Outstanding time management, organization, and attention to detail.

Flexible and adaptable to changing business needs.

Willing to work required hours and travel within assigned geography.

Equally adept at independent work and team collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

Field‑based sales experience strongly preferred for remote‑based sales positions.

Sales experience in the publishing industry or related SaaS/technology industries.

Familiarity with CRM systems.

Experience with sales technology programs and video conferencing.
