Job Summary The Electrophysiology Technician (EP Tech) supports electrophysiology and cardiac procedures, providing technical expertise and assistance to the Electrophysiologist and Cardiology team. This role includes preparation, monitoring, and patient care during procedures, as well as operating and troubleshooting specialized equipment. The EP Tech ensures patient safety, equipment readiness, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Essential Functions
Assists the Electrophysiologist and Cardiology team during electrophysiology procedures, performing scrub, hemodynamic monitoring, and circulating duties.
Monitors and assesses patient status, managing cardiovascular hemodynamics, and initiating Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) protocols as necessary.
Operates and troubleshoots electrophysiology equipment, including cardiac stimulators, ensuring proper setup and functionality for each procedure.
Provides pre‑ and post‑procedural patient care, including assessments and instruction to ensure patient comfort and safety.
Demonstrates proficiency in radiation safety protocols and maintains a thorough understanding of interventional supplies, anatomy, physiology, and equipment operation.
Recognizes and resolves equipment issues promptly, maintaining accurate records and images in the electronic health system.
Assumes on‑call responsibilities as required and assists in maintaining procedural room readiness.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Technical School certification from an accredited program in Health Science, Electrophysiology, Cardiovascular Technology, or related field required OR
Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Nursing, or related field required
0-2 years of experience in an electrophysiology or cardiac catheterization lab required
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Proficient in electrophysiology procedures, hemodynamic monitoring, and ACLS protocols.
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiation safety protocols.
Ability to effectively operate and troubleshoot electrophysiology equipment.
Excellent communication skills for patient interaction and collaboration with healthcare teams.
Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
Licenses and Certifications
BCLS - Basic Life Support required
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required
RCES - Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist preferred
RCVT - Registered Cardiovascular Technologist preferred
