The job 1% for the Planet is seeking a strategic, entrepreneurial partnerships professional to launch and lead a transformative new distribution partnerships function. This is a rare opportunity to build a scalable growth motion from the ground up—shifting our network expansion from traditional 1-to-1 sales to high-impact 1-to-many partnership strategies that will define the next chapter of our growth.
As our first Senior Growth Partnerships hire, you will architect and execute partnership frameworks that exponentially grow our business membership network while creating meaningful environmental impact. You'll identify, develop, and close strategic partnerships across retail, technology, and partner program channels—unlocking efficient pathways to scale that don't exist today.
This role combines strategic growth partnership development (65%) with high-value enterprise sales (35%), requiring someone who can both design innovative partnership structures and close transformational deals with C-suite executives across global markets.
Key responsibilities
Build the growth partnership engine: Design and implement a comprehensive distribution partnership framework and go-to-market strategy from the ground up, creating the blueprint for scalable, efficient network growth
Identify high-leverage opportunities: Source and evaluate strategic partnerships across multiple channels:
Retail partnerships: Gain access to retailers’ brand portfolios and co-develop pathways to convert their networks into 1% members
Technology partnerships: Integrate 1% for the Planet membership visibility into POS systems, buy-flows, e-commerce platforms, and other strategic tech touchpoints
Partner programs: Collaborate with aligned organizations, trade associations, and networks to create partnership opportunities. Also, deepen and grow the existing Advocate Program to drive referrals.
Bring your own ideas: We're looking for someone who sees opportunities we haven't imagined yet
Structure win-win partnerships: Develop partnership models, negotiate terms, and create compelling mutual value propositions that align with partner business objectives while driving membership growth
Drive forecasting and measurement: Build financial models to project membership growth potential, forecast revenue impact, and establish clear KPIs for each partnership opportunity
Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner closely with the Director of Business Development and internal teams to ensure seamless partnership execution, member onboarding, and ongoing success
Close enterprise deals: Lead outbound prospecting and relationship development with large enterprise businesses, converting them into 1% for the Planet members
Source from multiple channels: Generate pipeline through cold outbound, referrals, event introductions, and strategic networking across global markets
Navigate complex sales cycles: Manage long-cycle enterprise sales processes, engaging with leadership teams and C-suite decision-makers to negotiate and close high-value memberships
Sell the partnership vision: Position 1% for the Planet membership as a long-term, mutually beneficial strategic partnership rather than a transactional relationship—because that's exactly what it is
Knowledge, skills and abilities Required Experience & Skills
6+ years of experience identifying, negotiating, and executing distribution or channel partnerships with measurable business impact
Proven track record building partnership programs from scratch or scaling early-stage partnership functions in a high-growth environment
Enterprise sales expertise: Demonstrated success closing deals with large, complex organizations and navigating C-suite conversations with senior executives
Global market experience: Comfort operating across international markets with diverse business cultures, regulatory environments, and time zones
Partnership framework fluency: Deep understanding of how to vet partners, structure agreements, forecast outcomes, and measure partnership ROI
Strategic and creative thinking: Ability to spot unconventional opportunities, think multiple steps ahead about network effects, and bring fresh ideas for growth acceleration
Financial acumen: Experience building business cases, forecasting partnership revenue/growth impact, and using data to drive decisions
Ability to travel internationally: Travel will be 5-10% of the role and will be primarily focused around attending internal and external hosted events of 1% for the Planet
Entrepreneurial self-starter: Thrives in ambiguity and excels at building new functions without an existing playbook
Relationship builder: Natural connector who creates authentic, long-term relationships based on mutual value and trust
Results-driven: Dedicated with outcomes, metrics, and moving the needle on organizational growth
Mission-aligned: Passionate about environmental sustainability and the power of business as a force for good
Intellectually curious: Constantly learning, asking "what if," and finding inspiration in unexpected places
