Kirkwood Electric is a full‑service municipal utility dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and cost‑effective power to the homes and businesses that define our community. We purchase our own power from the market – about 60% from the Prairie State coal power plant in Lively Grove, Illinois, and 40% from diverse sources linked to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) grid. This includes a balanced mix of coal, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy from wind and solar, positioning Kirkwood Electric as a leader in sustainable, community‑driven energy management.
Responsibilities
Leading daily operations and long‑range planning of the City’s generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
Managing an annual operating budget of approximately $35 million.
Overseeing 18 employees and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and professional growth.
Negotiating wholesale power purchase agreements and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Providing guidance to City leadership on rate structures, infrastructure investments, and policy decisions.
Compensation
Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Three weeks of vacation annually.
11 paid holidays per year.
One day of sick leave per month.
