The
Construction Engineering Services Practice
is seeking a
Construction Designer
in
Salem, OR .
The responsibilities for this position will be diverse and will include providing on‑site and in‑office construction design support on primarily transportation‑related construction projects during the construction season. The successful candidate will also provide design support for our other design groups during the off‑construction season.
What You’ll Do Key Responsibilities:
Participate in project development activities prior to contracts being awarded. Review pre‑award contract documentation for completeness and accuracy; provide review comments to the appropriate person for action and follow up to make sure the comments are addressed.
Read and understand contract documents prior to the start of the work. During the work, interpret the contract documents, anticipate potential problems, propose potential solutions, and work with others in their resolution.
Act as the representative of the Client in communications with the Contractor, the public, or other interested parties.
Utilize state‑of‑the‑art computer drafting tools and have a high level of competency to use design software such as MicroStation, Open Roads, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Translate mark‑ups into drawings, check and plot drawings, correctly label final working drawings, calculate and update project quantities, and update contract drawings and specifications.
Develop design plans, cost estimates, and specifications for bid packages.
Perform design‑related tasks under the supervision of a registered Professional Engineer (PE), or under their PE license using standard guidelines and criteria such as AASHTO and others.
Set up and maintain standard drawing files and adhere to company drafting standards as applicable to each project.
Obtain work assignments of specific design elements from Project Manager with an allocated budget.
Set up directories and work within file‑sharing software such as ProjectWise.
Prepare and check design files and stakeout information for completeness and accuracy in preparation to hand over to construction surveyors during construction.
Calculate earthwork quantities based on digital terrain models (DTM) and design models using design software and evaluate survey confidence points based on DTM and design model data.
Inspect and monitor construction work to assure that the Materials furnished and the Work performed are in close conformance to the Plans and Specifications.
Review all work for completeness and accuracy.
What You Bring Required Qualifications:
Associate degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Experience in drafting software applications such as MicroStation, AutoCAD or Civil 3D
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with heavy emphasis on Excel and Word
Physically able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
Must have a valid driver's license and clear motor vehicle report
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree Civil Engineering
Oregon Professional (PE)
2+ years of construction inspection or survey experience
Proficiency with Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Inroads
ODOT or ODOT local agency project experience
