Ceramic Blade Maker
– Kadant South America, Auburn, Massachusetts.
This role sets up and operates a precision automatic ceramic grinding machine, producing items from various materials following blueprints, sketches, and work instructions. The applicant will perform all blade processing operations in ceramic and other blade departments.
Responsibilities
Work independently in planning, layout, setting up and operating the precision automatic ceramic blade grinder.
Produce product according to specifications and applicable procedures/work instructions.
Perform basic machine maintenance.
Carry out all processing operations in ceramic and other blade departments, including beveling, honing, grinding, punching, cutoff, packaging, and assembly.
Participate in development of processes to enable production of unique and undocumented processes.
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
Be fully responsible for the quality of own work.
Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and practices.
Be a team player and participate in efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
Work overtime as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Opportunity to travel to Germany for hands‑on training from the original equipment manufacturer.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum two years hands‑on experience with the set‑up and operation of precision automatic ceramic face grinding machines. Experience with all blade‑making processes is a plus. Experience with lifting devices such as cranes and power lifts.
Knowledge:
Shop mathematics and technologies; ability to read basic blueprints; understanding of order of operations and good manufacturing practices.
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints; use measuring tools (tape measure, micrometers, vernier calipers); control equipment to hold tolerances of .0005 consistently; verbal and written communication; problem solving with little guidance; basic computer skills; task prioritization.
Physical/Environmental Demands:
Manual dexterity to handle items; lift up to 40 lbs without aid; work in shop conditions with moving equipment, noise, dust, temperature swings; exposure to hazards requiring personal protective equipment.
