Responsibilities

Assess cabin counselor performance daily to maintain standards.

Be present in cabin areas on a daily basis during meals, program times, showers, and devotions.

Interact with campers and staff on a daily basis.

Conduct face checks to ensure staff and campers are present at appropriate times.

Provide direction to staff and campers who are not following rules.

Assist in supervising showers and devotional times.

Coordinate and supervise cabin night activity.

Manage area duty responsibilities of female staff members.

Assist in collecting and sorting bridge laundry for all female bridge campers and staff members.

Provide feedback that encourages growth and development of female staff members.

Conduct regular area meetings.

Lend support to female staff members after lights out in cabin areas.

Observe, correct, and evaluate female staff members on interactions and leadership with campers.

Assist in completing written mid-season and end-of-season evaluations for each female staff member and verbally review them.

Conduct cabin cleanliness checks on opening and closing day of each session.

Ensure that female campers and staff are physically and emotionally safe while having fun at Camp Cherokee.

Greet and accommodate parents as needed on opening day.

Visit any camper or female staff member in the Health Center.

Check e-mails and voicemails daily, communicate directly with parents regarding their camper(s).

Contact parents of all first-year campers by Wednesday of each session.

Assist in managing and returning all lost-and-found items.

Assist other program staff when needed.

Opening/closing day responsibilities.

Assist Evening Program Director.

Plan and supervise campers and staff during bridge sessions.

Actively assist in OD responsibilities.

Assist with supervision during off-site trips.

Select an honor cabin at the end of each session; present the honor creatively at closing banquet.

Assist in delivering mail.

Identify and manage cabin supply needs.

Additional responsibilities as directed by the camp director team.

Physical requirements include endurance during prolonged activities, bending, stooping, lifting; ability to observe, manage, and evaluate staff and campers; maintain positive morale.

Qualifications

Must be 19 years of age or have completed at least two years of college.

Must be certified in First Aid and CPR.

Must attend all pre-camp training, retreats, and opening training session.

Possess leadership qualities and sound judgment.

Good health, enthusiasm, individual maturity, moral character, team qualities, and communication skills.

Interest in the development of children.

Must be able to endure hot temperatures, physical exertion, manual labor, behavioral conflicts, and be able to walk, run, and swim daily.
