Job Description DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Customer Service & Sales

Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast and friendly service.

Assist customers by making product suggestions.

Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques (phone, intercom, one‑on‑one).

Answer and respond to incoming calls; resolve customer complaints and report to Store Director as needed.

Store Operations

Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director.

Plan daily operations and monitor production processes for profitability.

Build grocery displays, rotate stock, and discard outdated or spoiled products.

Ensure cleanliness of work area and department.

Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays; coordinate grocery sales promotions.

Ensure merchandise is correctly priced, displayed, and shelves are clean and properly maintained.

Follow and maintain department standards and requirements.

Staff Management

Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance.

Schedule employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels.

Possess specific knowledge of duties performed by all department employees (including opening/closing, dairy, frozen).

Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees.

Train employees in store policies, sales, and record‑keeping procedures.

Identify and train employees with high potential for advancement.

Initiate personnel actions such as interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions.

Inventory & Financial Control

Prepare sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every 6 months.

Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness.

Maintain inventory levels according to division directives; stock and rotate products.

Order grocery products and maintain inventory levels per division guidelines.

Supervise reclamation processing and maintain orderly backroom and grocery department conditions.

Control shrink and costs.

Implement correct product preparation techniques.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure proper code dating for all products within the department.

Perform receiving duties: break down loads, verify orders, inspect quality, report shortages, stock and rotate products.

Adhere to product temperature and storage guidelines; follow proper packaging techniques.

Complete and maintain accurate department records and required paperwork (daily log sheets, sales, labor).

Ensure compliance with retail labeling laws, federal/state regulations, company policies, and code dating.

Maintain safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work area, cooler, equipment, and display areas.

Implement emergency procedures for equipment/software malfunctions.

Comply with workplace safety rules and regulations.

Ensure compliance with company grooming standards and dress code.

Equipment & Technology

Operate related equipment: pallet jack, hand truck, scissors, knives, safety cutters, Sterilox machine.

Operate computer software and electronic ordering devices to order products.

Communication & Leadership

Attend and participate in sales meetings.

Communicate sales goals, department performance, and opportunities to employees.

Ensure positive results through effective communication and leadership.

Other Responsibilities

Perform all job duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.

Pay Transparency:

Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay*, PTO/Vacation pay*, paid holidays*, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on‑going basis.

*For roles in Washington State:

Sick payand PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
