Position Summary
The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), headquartered in McCandless, PA, is seeking an experienced professional to provide strategic leadership for the Society’s event portfolio, technical programming, and revenue-generating sales activities. This senior-level position guides a multifaceted department responsible for delivering high-quality conferences, professional development offerings, and partner engagement initiatives that serve and advance the global materials science and engineering community.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Drive the strategic planning and execution of the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition, MS&T, specialty conferences, professional development activities, and contracted event services.
Lead staff and volunteer teams in developing programmatic and event-related strategic initiatives.
Ensure all events and sales initiatives align with organizational goals, financial expectations, and industry best practices.
Conference & Professional Development Management
Oversee event development from concept through delivery, ensuring high-quality attendee experiences, operational efficiency, safety, and financial performance.
Support the identification and implementation of new professional development offerings, including courses and webinars.
Guide the identification and contracting of event venues and third-party partners.
Programming Oversight
Direct programming activities across TMS technical divisions and committees.
Promote meaningful volunteer engagement and nurture emerging strategic initiatives that enhance member value.
Sales Leadership
Direct advertising, sponsorship, hospitality suite, exhibit, and related sales strategies for TMS events.
Achieve sustainable revenue growth and strengthen relationships with exhibitors, sponsors, and partners.
Operational & Team Leadership
Develop and manage budgets, fee structures, policies, and dashboards.
Monitor industry trends and ensure continual innovation and improvement.
Supervise and mentor departmental staff, fostering collaboration, accountability, and service excellence.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
Strong understanding of meeting and event management processes.
Demonstrated leadership experience with staff and volunteer groups.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to manage confidential information and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
High degree of professionalism, effective interpersonal skills, and sound work ethics.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
Experience supporting or engaging with scientific and engineering professionals is preferred.
Ability to travel up to approximately 15%, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
Work Environment & Location Requirement TMS operates with a collaborative culture that supports innovation, shared leadership, and operational excellence. This role requires a regular onsite presence, with some flexibility for remote work.
