HVAC Mechanic

The HVAC/R Mechanic installs, services and repairs heating and air conditioning systems in various establishments. Essential duties include installing, servicing, and repairing environmental-control systems in residences, laboratory spaces, living quarters, galleys, office buildings, and commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout. Key responsibilities include mounting compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors, fabricating, assembling, and installing ductwork and chassis parts, installing evaporator units, cutting and bending tubing to correct length and shape, cutting and threading pipes, joining tubing or pipes to refrigerating units, installing expansion and discharge valves, connecting motors, compressors, and temperature control panels, installing air and water filters, injecting refrigerant into compressors to test systems, observing pressure and vacuum gauges, starting units and adjusting for proper operation, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing refrigeration, air conditioning, gas, and hydronic heating systems, testing joints and connections for gas leaks, wrapping pipes in insulation batting, replacing defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring, and performing other related duties as assigned. Accountability includes the proper use of tools and equipment, completing all mandated training requirements, timely and cost-effective performance of duties, timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work, dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner, adherence to company safety policies, compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies, and having the ability to work well under pressure. Job requirements include four years' experience in HVAC/R mechanical and machine equipment repair, evidence of successful completion at two vocational education training courses in the areas of refrigeration, air conditioning, and controls, knowledge of the use of specialized tools to perform HVAC/R repair functions, knowledge to troubleshoot equipment, possession of Class 1 & 2 (and Universal if required) licensing for refrigerant certification, knowledge of Windows operating systems (HVAC PRO) desirable, possession of a valid State issued driver's license with an acceptable driving record, ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract, U.S. Citizenship, meeting and maintaining company physical and security requirements, including respirator qualification and clearance eligibility when required, ability to lift 50lbs, and good communication skills for a service team environment.
