Director of Nursing – Women’s & Children’s Health
to lead comprehensive maternal, infant, and pediatric services at a
300-bed acute care hospital
in the southwestern portion of West Virginia. This leader will oversee clinical operations, quality, resource management, and staff development while fostering a culture of excellence and compassionate, family-centered care. Ideal candidates are proven nursing leaders with strong operational expertise, deep clinical knowledge of women’s and pediatric services, and the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams. About the Women’s & Children’s Services Program
This department provides a full continuum of care aligned with ACOG, AWHONN, and AAP standards. Service areas include: 12-bed Labor & Delivery unit
Postpartum Unit
Newborn Nursery
Pediatrics
Level I NICU
Supportive practices such as Kangaroo Care
A team of
40+ FTEs , physicians, APPs, and specialized nursing staff work collaboratively to deliver safe, evidence-based care supported by advanced clinical technology. How You’ll Contribute
Strategic & Clinical Leadership
Develop and implement departmental goals, plans, and performance standards.
Ensure care delivery that meets clinical, regulatory, and ethical requirements.
Lead Women’s & Children’s Services including labor & delivery, postpartum, nursery, NICU, and pediatrics.
Operational & Administrative Management
Oversee daily operations, throughput, staffing, and resource allocation.
Drive high-quality patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and team engagement.
Maintain compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, HIPAA, and other regulatory bodies.
Staff Development & Culture Building
Lead hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and corrective actions.
Ensure ongoing clinical competency and continuing education.
Promote a supportive, collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement
Integrate evidence-based best practices into policies and protocols.
Collaborate with clinical leadership to advance safety, quality, and patient experience initiatives.
Oversee internal/external audits and ensure readiness for accreditation surveys.
Financial Leadership
Prepare, monitor, and manage the departmental operating budget.
Ensure cost-effective resource utilization and adherence to organizational financial goals.
Collaboration & Communication
Partner closely with physicians, anesthesia, APPs, and hospital leadership.
Facilitate multidisciplinary care coordination and operational excellence.
Perform additional leadership responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Required:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field
Licensure
Current West Virginia RN license or Compact RN license
(as WV is an NLC state)
Experience
5–7 years of progressive leadership experience
in Women’s & Children’s Health
Strong background leading multidisciplinary clinical teams
Proven ability to collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and hospital leaders
Certifications
BLS, ACLS, and NRP required
(or obtained within a defined timeframe)
