Phlebotomy Coordinator

Summary Responsible for overseeing and coordinating phlebotomy procedures within a healthcare facility. This role is also responsible for serving as a laboratory liaison to patients, nursing personnel, and staff, and assures excellence in quality and safety of blood collection and analysis. Essential Functions: Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups. Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens. May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting. Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. May assume charge responsibilities or other tasks from the Lead Phlebotomist, as assigned. Oversees staff training and competency assessments, ensuring proper documentation. Troubleshoots complex issues in collaboration with other departments and reviewed quality control and reports as assigned. Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Works fluently with computer programs and systems, and complies with HIPAA regulations. Performs other tests, administration, and specimen collection as assigned. Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required Licenses and Credentials: Phlebotomy Technician [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only required Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred Experience: Experience in phlebotomy 3-5 years required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements. Possesses good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects. Superior customer service skills, with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy. Demonstrates complex problem-solving skills outside of everyday occurrences and is proficient in downtime procedures and protocols. May specialize in a specific process, patient population, or testing type. Works independently and collaborates effectively within a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others' experiences and perspectives.
