POSITION SUMMARY The Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent leads a team of millwrights, leads, mechanics, planners and other technicians to ensure production equipment is in top working order; and eliminates production downtime. The Superintendent will embrace reliability maintenance practices to reach these goals.

The Superintendent will provide staff with hiring, training, and development that focuses on elevating the departments overall skill sets and knowledge. The Superintendent works as a partner with production superintendents and supervisors to ensure production continuity through his/her knowledge, skill sets and planning capabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities

BEFORE STARTING ANY WORK, ENSURES ALL SAFETY CONCERNS HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED

Eliminates roadblocks for team, through professional communication and advice

Leads the planning and implementation of maintenance projects

Inspects and audits work performed by maintenance staff

Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues.

Ensures that maintenance records are maintained accurately

Demonstrates deep knowledge of all machinery and their functionality

Ensure the optimal performance of all equipment.

Other duties as assigned.

Safety

Commitment to safety by following work safe rules, regulations, and policies in accordance to company guidelines

Consistently implements LOTO and Hot Work programs as per company policies.

Audits, reviews and challenges each active Hot Work ticket during shift

As a leader: ensures proper use of PPE by others; eliminates unsafe conditions and enforces all safety protocols and procedures.

Maintains safety awareness by training, eliminating safety issues and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions.

Communicates with others on the topics of safety, continuous improvement opportunities, and direction of department

Operational

Develops plans to complete long range work projects; and executes those plans

Ensures steady and complete work of planned maintenance processes

Shifts resources and personnel based on ever changing business priorities.

Leads the planning, scheduling and purchasing processes to ensure adequate inventories are available; planning of work is proactively organized; and that compliance of budgetary concerns is in place.

Audits, reviews, challenges and addresses needed changes to any and all work processes

Address chronic, or reoccurring repairs, or maintenance concerns with proactive approaches to eliminate these concerns for the future.

Education and/or Experience and Other Requirements

Completion of an accredited degree program; or extensive on-the-job knowledge in lieu of a degree.

Over 10 years of experience as a millwright

Previous experience in a forest products/sawmill environment is preferred

Strong mechanical, welding, technical, and drafting knowledge.

When business continuity is of concern, there may be a periodic requirement to work night, weekend, holiday or on-call hours

Environmental Conditions

Work is performed in an industrial mill environment. This includes working at heights requiring the use of ladders, platform and lifting machinery. Work is often performed in tight, dirty, oily areas including confined spaces. Overall, the mill is exposed to outdoor temperatures where extreme heat and cold will be a condition of work.
