Role Overview:
The Outside Sales Representative will manage, grow, and develop a book of business within a 60-mile radius of Houston, primarily calling on single-family custom home builders. This individual will play a critical role in driving profitability, building long-term customer relationships, and representing the company’s product lines with professionalism and expertise. This is a field-based, customer-facing role requiring strong self-motivation, a competitive sales mindset, and the ability to generate $500K+ in monthly sales once fully ramped. Key Responsibilities:
Develop and grow a profitable customer base of custom single-family builders in the Greater Houston area. Manage an active pipeline of accounts, including a blend of handed-off active/inactive customers and newly developed relationships. Conduct daily travel within a 60-mile radius to job sites, builder offices, and industry partners. Sell a portfolio of lumber, siding, windows, doors, structural panels, and engineered wood products. Generate quotes, bids, and proposals using internal software tools, including Biztrak and an integrated sales dashboard. Manage the full sales cycle: prospecting, relationship-building, quoting, closing, order management, and follow-through. Work closely with internal operations, yard teams, and purchasing to ensure accurate and timely fulfillment. Own revenue and GP targets, including uncapped commission potential beginning after year two. Represent the company with professionalism, responsiveness, and high integrity. Stay aware of regional market trends, competitor activity, and product innovations. Role Requirements (Must-Haves):
5+ years of Outside Sales experience in the building materials industry. Strong knowledge of lumber, siding, windows, and doors (no roofing or trim experience required). Existing relationships or an active book of business with custom home builders in the Houston market. Ability to perform daily travel and manage a territory autonomously. Experience selling for a dealer, LBM yard, or related supplier. Proven track record of achieving monthly sales targets. Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and capable of independently driving business growth. Nice-to-Have Qualities:
Experience selling to both single-family and multifamily builders. Familiarity with competitors such as JP Hart / USLBM, Texas Supply, BFS, Detering, 84 Lumber, etc. Business development mindset with the ability to activate dormant accounts. Strong organization, communication, and follow-up skills. Compensation & Benefits:
