Overview Dietary Manager (Healthcare)

Responsibilities

Responsible for supervising, assigning duties and tasks while directing the work of all food service department employees with full accountability of the dining services department.

Ensure equipment is maintained and work areas are clean, safe, and orderly.

Strictly adhere to procedures regarding infection control, food-borne illness prevention, harmful chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation; promptly addressing any noncompliance.

Maintain food costs within budgetary constraints and maintain strict inventory control.

Demonstrate independent judgment and discretion.

Interview, make hiring recommendations, and orient new staff.

Schedule and reschedule staff using independent judgment and discretion when creating schedules and addressing time-off requests or other schedule modifications.

Responsible for tracking attendance and effectively carrying out disciplinary action where appropriate.

Communicate and enforce policies and procedures, including safety and sanitation policies, and recommend corrective action to enforce such policies.

Evaluate performance and recommend changes to terms and conditions of employment based on evaluations.

Complete dietary QA audits on a quarterly basis.

Plan community and individual resident menus as ordered by the primary care provider in coordination with Affinity staff and with medical staff if necessary; plan special events as needed.

Ensure meals are prepared according to menu and recipes, in a nutritional and appetizing fashion, and presented attractively. Ensure appropriate snacks are available for residents with special dietary needs.

Ensure all utensils, dishes, equipment, and work areas are cleaned properly and in a timely manner. Supervise and ensure safe storage, defrosting, and preparation in keeping with safe and sanitary procedures.

Ensure all employees provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

Perform job duties for residents and with team members in a courteous and professional manner.

Take initiative to ensure resident safety and satisfaction is a priority.

Meet and greet visitors in a friendly, helpful manner (visitors include current residents’ families and friends, prospective residents and their families, referral sources, vendors, and regulators).

Answer phones according to company and community standards.

Ensure compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding residents’ rights.

Ensure employees attend all required in-service trainings and provide in-service trainings as needed.

Attend training sessions as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications

Experience in food service management within a healthcare or assisted living setting is preferred.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Knowledge of health department regulations, infection control, and safety policies.

Ability to manage budgets, inventory, and QA processes.
