Job Summary This position is the focal point in the branch for sales, service, and/or referral opportunities in support of overall branch goals and activity requirements. The Universal Banker serves existing customers and grows their business by identifying sales opportunities, assists the Tellers with customer transactions, stays current on operational, product, and system changes, and demonstrates sound risk management decisions to help the branch manage preventable losses and reduce fraudulent activity.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the assigned person to welcome customers, direct them as appropriate, and encourage utilization of self‑service channels.
Proficiently handle the new account opening process for both personal and business accounts.
Deliver exceptional customer experience by proactively greeting customers, using their name, and closing each interaction with a courteous sign‑off.
Take ownership of account servicing and error resolution, escalating complex issues to a supervisor and following up to ensure timely and accurate resolution.
Identify and act on customer needs to build lasting relationships.
Assess immediate and long‑term financial needs of customers entering the branch, present appropriate options, and complete sales or referrals of products and services.
Conduct lead‑focused outbound calls and participate in branch sales promotions as requested by management.
Follow consumer guidelines for accuracy and new account handling and exception processing.
Process a variety of retail and commercial transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and check cashing, while verifying check endorsements and funds availability.
Maintain knowledge of ATM settlement, foreign currency, night depository, reserve cash, coin maintenance, negotiable control, opening/closing procedures, cash ordering, and cash shipment preparation.
Ensure compliance with operational, security, and control policies to prevent fraud and protect customer assets.
Demonstrate teamwork by assisting branch colleagues and actively participating in branch team meetings.
Primarily staff the Manlius Branch but be ready to relocate to other branches on a day‑to‑day basis as needed.

Required Experience And Education
High School diploma or GED
Previous banking experience preferred
Basic knowledge of computers

Ability to take direction from supervisor
Flexible schedule including Saturdays
Ability to attend after‑hour meetings as required
Occasional travel between office locations

Ability to operate a computer, printer, copier, facsimile machine, telephone, credit card machine, calculator, and shredder

Close mental and visual attention required for preparing and analyzing data, using a computer terminal, or extensive reading.
