Rarefied Gas Dynamics Modeling SME
to join the team!
Responsibilities:
Enhance and utilize NASA's Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) Analysis Code (DAC)
Utilize experience with CFD Solutions to inform RGD simulations
Use expertise to guide junior engineers in rarefied flow field physics
Guide junior engineers in the use of DAC and similar simulation tools
Perform deep dive analyses as needed
Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
Educational requirement equivalent to a BS with at least 15 years of experience
Experience using CFD solutions to inform RGD simulations
Expertise with upper atmosphere aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic modeling approaches and sensitivities
Expertise with rarefied flow field physics
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
Expertise with high fidelity modeling approaches and codes for rarefied flow fields, like DSMC Analysis Code (DAC)
Expertise with vacuum plume testing and modeling validation
Expertise for visiting vehicle docking and berthing plume flow fields and modeling
Expertise with engineering approaches and tools to model rarefied flow fields
Experience mentoring junior engineers

Requirements:
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency may be a requirement for this position
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised
Essential Functions & Work Environment: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time). Standard office environment with the possibility of inside or outside work depending on tasks.
Equipment and Machines: Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance: Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
Professional Conduct: Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
