About the Role We’re seeking an experienced and strategic Copy Lead to shape the voice of the Citi brand in lower funnel marketing communications. This lead will manage a team of dynamic copywriters and oversee the development of compelling, consistent messaging across all channels. As a key creative partner, they will collaborate closely with designers and key stakeholders to develop inspiring, impactful campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Copy Direction – Define, maintain and evolve the brand’s voice to ensure consistency across all content
Creative Concepting – Collaborate with designers and strategists to develop concepts and campaign messages that align with business objectives
Team Leadership – Mentor and manage a team of writers, providing guidance, continual feedback, and fostering a collaborative and growth‑oriented environment
Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Partner with colleagues across strategy and marketing teams to strengthen work and impact
Quality Control – Ensure all copy is on brand, consistent and legally compliant
Project Management – Prioritize and manage multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with campaign
Foster a Creative Culture – Champion a positive, inclusive and innovative design culture that encourages continuous learning and collaboration
Qualifications
8+ years of leadership experience leading copywriters / providing copy direction
Agency experience (in‑house agency experience is a plus)
Strong presentation skills and the ability to clearly and effectively discuss projects
Experience utilizing a work management platform
A BA or higher in English, Marketing or a related field
A comprehensive online portfolio showcasing your strongest work, including examples relevant to email and direct mail
Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite: including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Figma familiar, knowledge of collaborative workspaces
Familiar with creative AI tools
Proficient in AP Style and excellent command of English grammar
Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills
Able to balance speed with precision and adapt to evolving priorities
Education
Bachelor’s/University degree (Master’s degree preferred)
Salary and Benefits Primary Location: Schaumburg, Illinois, United States. Salary Range: $114,720.00 – $172,080.00.
