Job Title: Underwriter I Location:
Remote, Texas
What You’ll Do As a Mortgage Underwriter I you’ll perform a limited review of Conventional (Conforming, Conforming‑High Balance and Non‑Conforming Jumbo), Non‑Agency, and Government (FHA, VA, and USDA) loans for specific issues such as appraisal, property flip, insurability, DTI, etc.
You’ll be accountable for reviewing and clearing underwriting conditions on Conventional and Government loans in compliance with current guidelines and overlays.
Manage individual pipeline daily by completing underwriting reviews, appraisal reviews, flip reviews, and condition clearances.
Identify document deficiencies, add applicable conditions, and request additional information from clients.
Contact clients to provide updates and clarify outstanding conditions.
Assist department members in interpreting underwriting guidelines and updating status and conditions to customers.
Perform independent research of guidelines and overlays while reviewing loans.
What You’ll Need
3+ years of related experience in the Mortgage Industry, Residential Mortgage Loan underwriting or similar field.
High school diploma required.
Intermediate knowledge of residential mortgage industry in Correspondent or Retail Lending, including sales, operations, and related products.
Intermediate knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules, and regulations.
Entry‑level to intermediate knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and USDA Guidelines.
Entry‑level to intermediate knowledge of MS Office products and Encompass.
Intermediate speaking and writing communication skills.
