Position Overview The Sales Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for projects and proposals. This role involves analyzing specifications, drawings when available, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates. The Sales Estimator works closely with the sales team, project managers, inventory, and clients to ensure estimates align with customer requirements and company profitability goals.
Key Responsibilities
Review project specifications, drawings, and related documents to determine scope and requirements
Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment
Collaborate with sales representatives to develop competitive bids and proposals
Assist the sales team by providing high level cost pricing guidance
Analyze historical data and market trends to improve accuracy and competitiveness of estimates
Communicate with internal stakeholders, vendors, and subcontractors to obtain pricing and availability information
Ensure compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and client expectations
Maintain and update estimating databases and tools
Track proposal win/loss data and analyze patterns to improve operational effectiveness
Participate in pre-bid meetings and client consultations as needed
Provide timely revisions and updates to estimates based on project changes or client feedback
Lead site visits to capture project dimensions and environmental conditions
Serve as a bridge between sales and operations to validate job feasibility, equipment availability, and scheduling
Support margin improvement initiatives by identifying cost‑saving opportunities in logistics, labor, and materials
Requirements
Experience: 1‑2 years of estimating experience in construction or event industry required
High school diploma or GED Equivalent required
Ability to travel up to 25%
Strong analytical and mathematical skills
Proficiency in estimating software and Excel
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Ability to perform a variety of tasks and manage those tasks concurrently
Ability to read and understand construction documents including contracts, specifications, and drawings
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of event industry or rental industry
Experience with CRM and ERP systems, HubSpot and D365 experience preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with a focus on profitability and project feasibility
Confident representing the company on job sites and in client meetings with sales
Strong communication skills to translate complex operational details into client‑friendly language
Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and adjust quickly to changing priorities
