Pay and Benefits U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provided pay range: $84,626.00/yr – $110,008.00/yr. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – up to $200,000 for up to 5 years. Program award amounts are determined by VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application.

Summary Responsible for case management of veterans enrolled in the HUD‑VASH program, coordinating housing placement, social services, and health care integration. This role requires a master's degree in social work, state licensure, and proficiency in English. Candidates must meet specific educational, licensure, and experience requirements outlined by VHA policy.

Responsibilities

Provide case management for a caseload of Veterans in the HUD‑VASH program.

Review and establish agreements with Section 8 landlords, Public Housing Authorities, and VA for HUD‑VASH placement sites.

Conduct site visits of HUD‑VASH apartments to ensure compliance with housing codes and safety for Veterans.

Verify Veteran status, eligibility for VA medical care, and program participation.

Ensure homeless Veterans are considered primary participants for program acceptance.

Collect and submit HUD‑VASH Program participant data per NEPEC evaluation procedures.

Coordinate care, act as an advocate, and link Veterans to VA Medical Centers, regional offices, and community agencies.

Comply with criminal conflict‑of‑interest laws and Executive Branch conduct standards.

Participate in HUD‑VASH program conference calls and training sessions.

Follow local policies, SOP, and documentation requirements for GARF and Joint Commission accreditation.

Assist in program planning and development, recommending policy or procedural changes based on caseload trends.

Conduct psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, and discharge planning with multidisciplinary teams.

Provide individual, family, and group counseling as appropriate.

Provide consultation/education to veterans and families on community resources, advance directives, and VA benefits.

Act as consultant or liaison between VA staff and community resources, including marketing and public relations duties.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

Qualifications

United States citizenship; non‑citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.

Proficient in spoken and written English.

Master’s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program. Doctoral degree is not a substitute.

State license or certification to practice social work at the master’s level (or applicable Grandfathering Provision for current VHA employees).

Minimum one year of post‑MSW experience equivalent to GS‑9 in health‑care or related social work settings, or a doctoral degree substituting for that experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, referral processes, and service coordination.

Skilled in conducting psychosocial assessments and implementing treatment interventions across diverse populations.

Knowledge of medical and mental‑health diagnoses, treatment procedures, medication effects, and medical terminology.

Capability to implement treatment modalities for individuals, families, and groups addressing psychiatric, medical, and social issues.

Ability to consult with new social workers, graduate students, and staff on psychosocial needs and health‑care impact.

Physical requirements as specified in VA Directive 5019.
