About the Club We are a private, member-owned 18-hole facility located in Alamo, California, hosting approximately 48,000 rounds per year. Our greens feature a Bentgrass/Poa blend, supported by lush, well-irrigated fairways sourced from healthy on-site wells.
Position Overview The 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a vital role in maintaining the course’s overall condition and supporting the Golf Course Superintendent in both daily operations and long-term planning. This position supervises maintenance activities, oversees the repair of motorized and mechanical equipment, and ensures efficient, high-quality conditions across the property.
In the Superintendent’s absence, the 1st Assistant provides leadership and decision‑making to uphold operational standards.
We are seeking a driven and knowledgeable professional who is committed to delivering exceptional playing conditions and is eager to advance into a Superintendent role in the future.
Core Responsibilities
Prepare daily work schedules in advance (completed the prior day)
Maintain and submit a daily log of completed work
Provide direct supervision and guidance to all golf course maintenance staff
Agronomic Monitoring
Conduct daily inspections of greens, tees, and fairways
Identify and report any turfgrass stress or concerns
Recommend and support recovery practices using professional turf management judgment
Irrigation System Management
Assist in developing and implementing daily irrigation schedules
Assess daily turf conditions for over/under-watering
Make system adjustments as needed to optimize conditions
Monitor pump stations, booster pumps, wells, and satellite controls
Support ongoing irrigation system oversight and efficiency
Operational Support
Oversee staff activities to ensure a safe, efficient, and professional work environment
Assist with pest management, equipment operation, and overall maintenance practices
Qualifications
2- or 4-year degree/certificate in agronomy, horticulture, plant/soil sciences, or related field
Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in golf course maintenance
Ability to obtain California QAC within one year of hire
Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, pest control, and equipment operations
Demonstrated ambition to progress toward a Golf Course Superintendent role
