Resident Assistant for Residence Life

The Resident Assistant (RA)
is a student member of the Department of Residence Life. They are responsible for working closely with staff and students to create and maintain an atmosphere that promotes student development and acceptance of diversity through group living in university residence halls and apartments. Resident Assistants are also Campus Security Authorities and Authorized Adults. The RA will assume specific responsibility for a designated area within the residence hall(s) or apartment complexes. The position carries part‑time, live‑in responsibilities with appointments made on a yearly basis.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate leadership potential and/or previous leadership experience.
Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written, with all types of people.
Work through conflict mediation and confrontation.
Understand work to be done, organize that work, and complete work in a timely manner.
Analyze information, problem‑solve, and use sound judgment in decision making.
Work independently as well as collaboratively.
Work a minimum of 3 week nights starting at 7:00 pm and ending at 8:00 am as well as all‑day weekend hours on a rotating basis.
Organizational skills.
Commitment to UAF Student Affairs and Residence Life Mission, Vision, and Goals.
Positive and problem‑solving attitude.
Approachability and ability to build relationships/community.
Must be able to use Microsoft and Google Suite applications.
Able to lift and carry 15 pounds.
Able to identify individuals from a minimum of 10 feet away.
Able to walk up and down 8 flights of stairs.
Minimum Qualifications
Cumulative and semester grade point average of 2.0 or above at the time of application and start date.
Undergraduate students only.
Full‑time student at UAF (12 undergraduate credits).
Open to undergraduate students only.
Must be available to maintain a schedule that ensures student contact, particularly during evening hours and weekends.
Must be available to work for the duration of the RA contract period. Contract dates are subject to change.
Position Details Stipend : $364 biweekly stipend, room waiver, and reduced meal plan.
