Job Title: Coordinator of Music Ministry

Employment Status: Full-Time, 40 hours per week, including nights and weekends as necessary.

Summary
The Coordinator of Music Ministry is responsible for planning, coordination, execution, and development of the music ministry for weekly Mass worship services and other celebrations. The goal of the music ministry is to engage the faithful in song during worship, drawing them into a closer relationship with God. The Coordinator is expected to exhibit reverence for Mass and other liturgical celebrations, leading by example. The Coordinator should help parishioners nurture a love and devotion to their Catholic faith so that they may spread the Gospel message of Christ through prayer and song.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for selection of music and accompaniment and coordination for all Liturgical celebrations including: Saturday and Sunday Masses and liturgies, Holy Days of Obligation, Ordinations and other Archdiocesan events (if requested), Evening Prayer Services, Reconciliation Services, Stations of the Cross, Holy Week (including Living Stations), Funerals and Memorial Services, Parish Mission(s), Weddings, Anniversaries, Quinceaneras, Feast Days or Solemnities, and additional parish liturgies, with consideration given to weekly liturgical content.

Coordinating and supporting music ministry ensembles including adult choir, children’s choir, Spanish choir, instrumentalists/orchestra, and contemporary music group(s).

Scheduling of pianist/musicians, cantors and ensembles for Masses and other celebrations, including substitute musicians and/or cantors when needed for planned/unplanned absences.

Ensuring that musicians, cantor, and choir are present and prepared for liturgical celebrations.

Introduce new, Spanish or bilingual music to Mass selections as requested by the Pastor.

Coordinate, lead and accompany weekly choir rehearsals (minimum of one mid-week practice and practice prior to each Mass, as necessary).

Foster an environment of reverence and respect among the choir during Mass.

Maintain and update rosters for all groups.

Recruit singers and musicians for all ensembles.

Compose and send out weekly announcements and schedules.

Contribute to parish social media accounts.

Organizing, promoting, and fund raising for the Yvonne Cosgrove Concert Series.

Training cantors, accompanists, and musicians.

Meet with wedding couples, parents of Quinceaneras, and funeral families as necessary.

Produce or aid in the development of worship aids and scripts for liturgies.

Participate in briefings with the Liturgy Office and/or Pastor as needed.

Be an active presence for all parish communities including Faith Formation, Spanish, contemporary services, ACTS, and Youth Ministry, among others.

Coordinate and oversee music for special events, including but not limited to: Lessons and Carols, Christmas Masses, Choir and congregation 30-minute prelude of selected carols, Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults (during Lent), Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday), organ recitals, guest musician concerts, and seasonal concerts (e.g. civic/patriotic/ holiday) suggested by Pastor.

Create annual budget for the music ministry (fiscal year July 1- June 30) to estimate costs and manage funds needed to accomplish music ministry goals.

Create and implement a plan for growth and development of the choir and music ministry including recruitment of new members and development of existing members.

Ensure participation of choir and music department in annual Ministry Fair.

Participate with the Liturgy Committee and attend regular meetings.

Pursue continuing education, training, and certification in musical and liturgical areas.

Ensure all music ministry equipment is properly inventoried, serviced and maintained, and the music and choir areas are kept clean and orderly.

Maintain music library so as to provide current musical resource materials for Masses and liturgical celebrations, create music plans for each liturgy, and purchase new music. Ensure music licenses are maintained and up-to-date, and oversee copyright permissions for the parish.

Performs duties as required of this area of responsibility, or directed by the Pastor.

Requirements
Required Qualifications

A practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

Excellence as a pianist, and proficiency in conducting, specifically experience in choral conducting.

Experience with sound amplification and audio sound systems.

Minimum of two years of experience directing/coordinating music ministry in a Catholic parish or environment.

Must be knowledgeable of Catholic liturgy, including liturgical documents with respect to worship and the ministry of music, and other pertinent documents and resources.

Demonstrated skill in selecting/planning music in support of liturgical events, and good organizational skills.

Must be enthusiastically motivated to promote a music program that follows the teachings and liturgical norms of the Catholic Church.

Must demonstrate ability of serving collaboratively with other members of the parish staff. Must have exemplary communication skills, coordinating with the whole parish community.

Good leadership skills, plus the ability to lead, train and form music ministers, and openness to relate to a variety of people. Is an active listener.

The ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.

Excellent communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to communicate to various levels of office staff, ministry leaders and parishioners.

Ability to work in a team environment, fostering a positive work environment.

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.

Meet all Archdiocesan employment requirements.

Provide proof of valid driver’s license and insurance.

Preferred Qualifications

Organist.

Fluency in Spanish is desired though not required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally required to climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level is moderate in the office environment.
