This is a direct hire, full time, on-site position based in Seattle, WA.
Position Overview
SGL is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Air Freight Manager to oversee both air import and export operations. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of hands-on experience in air freight logistics, with a strong understanding of international freight transportation, customs compliance, documentation, and vendor management. This role is responsible for managing daily operations, ensuring compliance, delivering excellent customer service, and driving efficiency while maintaining profitability.
Job Responsibilities
Manage and oversee end-to-end air freight operations for both import and export shipments.
Ensure accurate and timely preparation, review, and submission of all documentation in compliance with international regulations and customer requirements.
Coordinate with airlines, vendors, and trucking partners for cargo booking, transfers, and final delivery.
Monitor shipment status, proactively address delays, and provide timely updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
Maintain and update reporting tools to ensure data accuracy and operational visibility.
Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining strong client relationships.
Oversee vendor relationships, ensuring service quality, cost efficiency, and timely invoice processing.
Identify and address process inefficiencies, leveraging data analysis to drive improvements.
Support and guide team members, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
Ensure profitability and cost control at the shipment and departmental level.
Commit to ongoing self-development and improvement.
Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Department Manager.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
Identify and address process inefficiencies, collaborating with the team for improvements.
Analyze and trend data to drive process enhancements.
Foster and strengthen relationships with Service Providers.
Required Skills/Abilities
3+ years of hands-on experience in air import and/or export freight forwarding.
Strong knowledge of international air freight logistics, bonded cargo, and customs compliance.
Proven ability to manage full shipment cycles with accuracy and attention to detail.
Customer service-focused with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with peers and vendors.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer literacy.
Professional email and telephone etiquette with strong active listening skills.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
