The manager develops and implements public relations (PR) strategies that align with business development practice goals, raise the Firm’s public profile, and protect the Firm’s brand and reputation. Leveraging media relations experience, and forward-looking communications tactics, the manager will lead profile-raising campaigns, working closely with Business Development, Marketing, and Communications teams, as well as partners across the Firm. The manager role will primarily support the Firm’s Americas region, but as a member of a global PR function, will provide back-up guidance and support to the EMEA-based PR team.
Responsibilities Work with the Senior Manger to develop and implement a high impact communications strategy that reinforces and expands Cleary’s market prominence and standing across key practices, regions, and industries.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the legal industry and developments as well as the Firm’s strategic priorities for PR.
Build and maintain relationships with reporters and editors at target outlets.
Primarily responsible for PR in the Americas but, given the global nature of Cleary’s business, the role will work closely with the PR team in London.
Build trust and work closely with partners and practice business development teams to develop bespoke PR plans in conjunction with the Firm’s overall PR strategy.
Work with partners and business development teams convert complex matters and messages into clear and concise content appropriate for the intended audiences.
Collaborate with business development teams to support business development plans, and identify editorial opportunities for target publications.
Advise other members of the professional services team, including the Talent and Pro Bono teams, to support in getting clear messages out to external audiences.
Coach and work one-to-one with Firm leaders, lawyers, and other stakeholders regarding media interactions; work with the Senior Manager to develop training programs related to working with the media.
Manage a robust editorial calendar of award opportunities, and advise on submission strategy and messaging.
Work with Senior Manager to manage relationship with and guide PR agency to deliver ROI for the Firm.
Produce quarterly reports for Firm leadership on PR activities and results.
Manage, mentor, and nurture junior PR team members and their professional development.
Qualifications 7-8+ years of professional experience in public relations or corporate communications; experience in a law firm preferred.
Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing, or related field.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Previous experience developing and managing relationships with reporters/journalists.
Strong inter-personal relationship-building skills.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and project management; ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables while meeting time-sensitive deadlines.
Exceptional oral and written skills with strong attention to grammar, punctuation and detail.
Flexibility to monitor emails and work outside of regular business hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends, as needed.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $145,000 to $170,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, and performance. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
