Supervisory Social Worker – Suicide Prevention Pay Range : $114,323.00 – $148,621.00 per year (GS‑13)

EDRP Eligibility : The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program. Applicants must meet VA policy requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Summary This supervisory social worker role oversees the clinical and administrative aspects of the VA Suicide Prevention Program. The incumbent directs a multidisciplinary team, implements evidence‑based policies, and coordinates care across VA, community, and DoD partners.

Qualifications

Citizenship : United States citizenship. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.

Language Proficiency : Spoken and written English proficiency.

Education : Master’s degree in social work from a CSWE‑accredited school. Doctoral degree in social work is not a substitute.

Licensure : Licensure or certification by a state to practice social work at the master’s level. Advanced practice licensure is required for supervisory roles.

Experience : One year of experience equivalent to GS‑12, demonstrating advanced practice skills or supervisory experience. Certification or post‑master’s training from a nationally recognized organization is an asset.

KSA (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities) :

Independent organization and prioritization of duties.

Clinical supervision, consultation, and quality improvement skills.

Provision of clinical social work services by supervised staff.

Delegation and coordination of work with accurate and timely follow‑up.

Analysis of organizational problems and implementation of efficient solutions using data.

Staff training and development.

Physical Requirements : Moderate lifting (15‑44 lbs), light carrying ( Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the administrative and clinical aspects of the VA Suicide Prevention Program.

Direct a multidisciplinary team of senior social workers, social workers, administrative staff, and practicum students.

Plan, establish, and implement policies and procedures; develop individual and group goals; monitor and evaluate clinical staff.

Coordinate suicide prevention work across VA, community, and DoD collaborations.

Consult regularly with staff to ensure timely follow‑up and psychiatric emergency care.

Maintain data and program metrics and oversee all suicide prevention programs and associated data.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay : Competitive salary and regular increases.

Paid Time Off : 37–50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13–26 days annual leave; 13 days sick leave; 11 paid federal holidays).

Parental Leave : Up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave after 12 months of employment.

Child Care Subsidy : Eligible full‑time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may receive a childcare subsidy up to 25% of eligible costs.

Retirement : Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% VA contribution.

Telework/Virtual : Limited ad hoc telework may be approved; this position is not virtual.
