About the Program Jamaica Community Partnership Program organizes local public and private stakeholders; builds their capacity to support and stabilize families; and engages them with ACS and other City agencies through coordinated service referral, community‑led programs, community awareness efforts, and informing City policy and practice related to child and family well‑being.
Job Summary The community organizer will perform work involving planning, implementation, coordination and monitoring of community. The Community Organizer will actively create and sustain partnerships. He or she will seek service linkages and communication with intergovernmental agencies and community‑based organizations. The Community Organizer is responsible for undertaking a variety of leadership, community engagement, resource development and program management tasks. The Community Organizer must be detail‑oriented, have strong interpersonal skills and work ethics, be comfortable leading group discussions and working with diverse backgrounds, and be skilled in program development, resource support, planning and outreach.
Essential Functions
Conduct outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with community members, residents, businesses, and community groups
Maintain relationships with members and stakeholders in the community
Provide referrals to programs and opportunities in the community
Coordinate and promote workshops and events where community stakeholders and agencies partner to communicate and deliver
Assist with maintaining data‑tracking systems for program activities
Liaison with community‑based organizations and city government to build synergy and expand programmatic offerings
Coordinate and promote themed events geared toward program goals where community organizations and members communicate
Help identify new community groups, public and private initiatives with which to build relationships
Help identify emerging community issues to help guide the community’s response
Work with CPP Program Director to create and deliver outreach materials, talking points and presentation materials
Document all work including meeting minutes, referrals, etc.
Provide opportunities for community members to work and celebrate together in order to foster a sense of belonging, pride and mutual responsibility.
Recruit and provide training support to incoming Community Ambassadors from the community.
Engage in community outreach to youth and families; support the work of Community Ambassadors in these efforts
Collaborate with stakeholders to create ongoing education opportunities for the community around the issues they care about to empower them toward action. This includes workshops, seminars, training, hands‑on experiences, and other forms of learning opportunities.
Qualifications
High School diploma or Bachelor’s degree and at least two to three (2‑3) years of successful, relevant experience in community‑based programs engaging children, youth, and families.
Community organizing experience and knowledge required
Knowledge and experience conducting outreach required
Experience with the Jamaica Community required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (required)
Experience with presentations and/or training diverse groups (preferred)
Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and versatile while keeping overarching goals and outcomes in mind.
Experience in Canva, Social Media Management Tools, Microsoft 365 Suite, Word, Excel and Mailchimp, Adobe and Google Suite preferred.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes late evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Bilingual in spoken and written Spanish or Creole preferred
Driver’s license (preferred) to operate Community Mobile Resource Van.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full‑time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday (some weekends as needed) at Rising Ground’s Jamaica Hub at 91‑14 Merrick Blvd, Jamaica NY 11432. Work‑hour options are flexible 8‑hour shift from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm.
Additional Requirements
Authorized to work in the U.S.
Ability to work in‑person in New York City (NY) for at least 2 days or more per week.
Ability to travel to other Rising Ground sites (if required)
