Senior Underwriter

for our

Excess Casualty Retail

team.

Our U.S. Excess Casualty team brings significant expertise and deep-seated relationships with select appointed retail brokers. They offer meaningful in-house capacity, a consistent underwriting approach, timely and efficient turnaround, and a seasoned claims team.

Our business, your impact, our opportunity: What you’ll be doing:

Prioritize and evaluate new and renewal submissions to identify profitable opportunities aligned with business and corporate objectives

Assess individual risk characteristics to determine capacity, attachment point, terms, and pricing

Apply underwriting techniques within guidelines and rating plans to accommodate diverse account sizes and operations

Analyze and price coverage, structure, and exposures for individual risks

Leverage data analytics to improve underwriting efficiency and workflow

Authorize quotes, binders, and invoices within authority limits

Foster strong customer relationships while maintaining a compliance‑driven, risk‑focused culture

Ensure underwriting discipline and pricing align with profitability goals and guidelines

Develop and execute marketing strategies to retain and grow business

Communicate risk appetite and Retail Excess Casualty Value Proposition to brokers

Build and expand the business portfolio by enhancing relationships and identifying new opportunities

Represent the company at broker/client meetings and networking events

Stay informed on state/territory regulations, issues, and market trends

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including business development, claims, legal, and actuarial

What you’ll bring

Minimum 5 years of casualty underwriting experience with established authority

Strong expertise in Casualty insurance, with Middle Market and Large Accounts experience strongly preferred

Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, negotiate effectively, and make business decisions within authority limits

Demonstrated track record of profitability in underwriting, quoting, and binding business

Strong financial acumen, organizational skills, and accountability with exceptional verbal and written communication abilities

Collaborative team player with a proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with insureds, agents, and brokers

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience

Ability to travel up to 25%, including overnight stays

Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
