Turner Industries Group, LLC has an opening for a Structural Fitter to join our Team in the Decatur, AL area. The Structural Fitter will be responsible for raising, placing, and connecting girders, columns, and other structural steel components to create completed frameworks and structures.

Qualification Standards

High school or equivalent

One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)

Ability to use electric grinding and cutting tools and oxy/Acetylene Torch

Ability to operate manlift / forklift

NCCER preferred

Written pre‑employment qualification test

Post‑offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation

Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)

Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)

Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Functional Requirements

Offloads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator

Sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural‑steel members

Fastens steel members to cable of hoist

Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member

Guides member or rides on member to guide it into position

Pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device

Forces members into final position

Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member

Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members

Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted

Cuts steel members to make alterations

Reads and interprets fabrication drawings

Fabricates / modifies structural components

Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction

Compensation Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction
