Position Summary The Estimator will be responsible for bidding and estimating efforts – drawing and specification reviews, soliciting and negotiating subcontractor and supplier pricing, performing quantity take‑offs, pricing/scoping/bidding construction projects, and creating and completing bid/estimate packages in the trade(s) as assigned by the Lead Estimator.

Key Responsibilities Estimating Support for Projects

Reviews public notices to identify bid opportunities and forwards them to the Lead Estimator.

Thoroughly reviews all bidding documents, understands risk elements, and addresses them for evaluation.

Prepares and maintains bid plans, documents, and reproductions (document control).

Reviews project documents for cost effectiveness and suggestions for value‑alternative opportunities.

Performs detailed and well‑annotated quantity take‑offs in HCSS HeavyBid.

Communicates with architects and consultants to clarify scopes of work, materials, and schedule requirements; documents these clarifications.

Reviews contracts and front‑end documents (scope, schedule, price, terms, etc.) to ensure bids are compliant.

Prepares qualifications, assumptions, and exclusions that align with contractual requirements.

Oversees all bidding requirements; prequalifications (RFQs/RFPs), short‑listing, etc.

Works with the PM team to develop a plan for approach and execution, construction schedule durations, general conditions, and logistical cost items.

Prepares comprehensive bid proposals, bid forms, insurance forms, and other necessary documents.

Participates in bid reviews with Operations, PM, and Lead Estimator.

Maintains ongoing dialogue with awarding bodies for pending bid projects.

Prepares budgets for awarded projects.

Supports the PM team in setting up the Chart of Accounts for projects within Oracle.

Leads project hand‑off meetings with field management.

Provides input on site‑specific safety plans and critical work plans.

Organizes and archives all bid information for future reference.

Attends and participates in design and pre‑construction coordination meetings.

Communicates with and supports the operations team during execution, supporting buyout, Exhibit 1 review/creation, bid history, and change‑order pricing when appropriate.

Attends and participates in bi‑weekly Sales and BD Meetings.

Subcontractor Analysis for Bids

Actively solicits, evaluates, and maintains communication with vendors and subcontractors.

Directs, coordinates, and provides information and documents to vendors and subcontractors.

Prepares contractual exhibits and bid packages for subcontractor scopes.

Industry Knowledge / Relationships

Builds and maintains relationships with vendors, owners, subcontractors, and subcontractors to obtain a competitive advantage for Castle.

Builds and maintains relationships with internal McCarthy clients.

Attends industry events and represents Castle professionally.

Keeps current with latest estimating technologies and techniques, including HeavyBid and AgTek.

Keeps current with latest practices, methods, and techniques in the trade(s).

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2+ years of estimating site utility and/or grading experience, or 5+ years of equivalent experience.

General knowledge of construction principles and processes.

Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.

General knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes.

Working knowledge of estimating tools such as HCSS HeavyBid, HardDollar, B2W, AccuBid, AgTek, BlueBeam, PlanSwift, Stack Takeoff, On‑Screen Takeoff, Trimble Business Center, Primavera P6, etc.

Strong mathematics and analytical skills.

Solid interpersonal and communication skills.

Demonstrates behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values.
