We are looking for a District Sales Manager to manage sales performance among Sales Consultants (SCs) in the Akron/Canton, Ohio area. The DSM will drive a performance culture, coach and develop sales consultants to achieve profitable planned case and GP growth.
Responsibilities
Manages the performance and development of Sales Consultants within the district.
Conducts an average of 3-5 one-on-one coaching sessions each week.
Leads and facilitates Friday district meetings that educate, inspire, and produce key behavior changes to drive sales.
Directs Customer Engagement efforts to provide Sysco customers with expanded service channel options (technology enablers, value‑added services, and team selling).
Maintains a continuous improvement mentality around technology, sales skills, soft skills, and product knowledge.
Leverages Sales Support resources and tools to maximize consultative time for SCs.
Fully utilizes the CRM for SC sales planning, prospecting, and daily customer engagement, expecting productive use of Sysco 360.
Delivers Sysco brand results and directly manages conversion opportunities within the district.
Supports and promotes all national campaigns and promotions.
Provides coaching, training, and timely feedback to develop consultative selling skills (The Sysco Way to Sell).
Utilizes CMP and QPP processes to coach performance of all sales colleagues.
Executes territory planning and management.
Prioritizes independent relationships with top customers and high‑value prospects.
Champions company initiatives and implements center‑led strategy within the district.
Additional sales management responsibilities, including operational duties and customer relationship management.
Qualifications Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., business administration) or equivalent industry experience.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience successfully growing profitable sales in the foodservice industry.
Preferred: 5+ years of foodservice sales experience.
Professional Skills
Bilingual highly preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to derive insights through probing questions and collaborative problem‑solving.
Strong organizational and project‑management skills, with the ability to execute multiple initiatives autonomously.
Thrives in a fast‑paced work environment.
Proficient with Sysco’s proprietary CRM tool for planning and forecasting sales growth.
Mastery in consultative selling, marketing principles, prospecting, networking, coaching, and negotiations.
Capable of coaching, counseling, training, and directing associates.
Ability to supervise and motivate others.
Effective in writing reports and business correspondence.
Identifies new business opportunities, penetrates existing accounts, and minimizes lost business to achieve profitable sales growth.
Qualifies prospects under company account stratification goals.
Researches customer business needs and develops product/service mix to meet needs.
Analyzes market trends and recommends products based on business objectives.
Stays informed on market conditions, product innovations, competitor offerings, and shares information with customers.
Answers customer questions about products, prices, availability, and usage.
Provides product information and training to customer personnel.
Collects accounts receivable as needed, working with credit department and clients.
Manages deliveries according to routing schedule from transportation.
Troubleshoots order processing problems.
Participates in company events, promotions, customer visits, and customer events.
Attends general sales and district meetings.
Reviews and analyzes daily and weekly reports (special order requests, customer bid files, sales/gross‑profit data).
Performs administrative duties: preparing sales budgets and reports, maintaining records, processing credits, picking up requests, preparing quotes, filing reports.
Participates in ongoing training sessions.
Assists with training of new employees as requested.
