Overview The Fire Sales Associate is responsible for actively seeking out customers in our store, greeting them in an upbeat and professional manner while providing world‑class customer service and assisting with firearms questions and purchases.

Responsibilities

Ensure all paperwork for firearm sales including, but not limited to form 4473, licensing, and background checks are completed accurately and thoroughly

Consistently demonstrate proper firearm safety and handling

Evaluate and appraise firearms for resale

Exercise good judgment when interacting with customers shopping for firearms

Have a well‑rounded knowledge of all facets of the firearm industry including ammunition, reloading, and optics

Follow all company policies and procedures

Legally own a firearm

Stop a straw purchase

Greet all customers on the sales floor with courtesy and a smile

Grow personal sales by hitting minimum goals and following Scheels professional salesmanship standards to provide an above‑and‑beyond customer experience

Promote the Scheels Visa card and clearly explain all benefits

Engage in conversation with customers and assist them in making buying decisions

Demonstrate a passion for products in our store

Attend Scheels product training and all store meetings

Maintain a professional appearance on the sales floor

Assist in all other assigned duties

Perform basic math with accurate calculation of rate, ratio, and percent

Read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos

Present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations to customers and other employees

Demonstrate strong communication, organization, attention to detail and problem‑solving skills

Help with freight/stocking when needed

Demonstrate product usage within the shop and retrieve products from heights greater than 6 ft.

Hold a valid FOID card

Requirements

Compensation/Schedule Compensation for this position is hourly plus commission and averages $20–21+ hourly. Must be flexible to work an assigned schedule between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., Monday through Friday (daytime hours may be available), 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Schedule may include varied hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays; must be available a minimum of three weekends a month. Average hours per week is 20.

Education & Experience High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and/or one to three months of cashiering experience.

Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation. Heavy work – exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
