Position Overview The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for driving revenue growth by selling steel processing services—including pickling, slitting, and toll processing—to manufacturers, service centers, and OEMs. This role focuses on developing new business, managing existing accounts, and providing technical support to ensure customers receive high-quality processing solutions that meet their production needs. The ideal candidate understands the broader steel network—where steel is produced, where it is processed, and where it is used—to effectively identify opportunities and connect customer needs with available capabilities.
Key Responsibilities Business Development & Territory Management
Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the assigned territory.
Understand the steel supply chain and network, including production sources, processing locations, and end‑use markets.
Conduct regular in-person customer visits to strengthen relationships and uncover new opportunities.
Maintain a structured sales pipeline and meet activity targets for outreach, quoting, and follow‑up.
Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings.
Customer Relationship Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts, responding to inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
Provide customers with accurate information on processing capabilities, turnaround times, pricing, and order status.
Collaborate with internal operations, scheduling, and logistics teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
Maintain strong communication to support customer retention and long‑term growth.
Technical & Product Expertise
Understand and communicate the benefits of steel pickling, slitting, and related processing services.
Use knowledge of the steel network to match customer needs with service capabilities and identify strategic opportunities.
Work with customers to evaluate material specifications, tolerances, and coil requirements.
Assist in solving processing challenges or quality concerns by working closely with operations and quality teams.
Stay knowledgeable about market trends, competitor offerings, and industry developments.
Prepare accurate quotes based on service capabilities, production costs, and market conditions.
Track and document all sales activities in the company CRM or designated system.
Monitor pricing, margins, and volume targets to achieve annual sales goals.
Provide regular sales reports, forecasts, and updates to management.
Qualifications
Prior sales experience in steel processing, coil services, metals distribution, manufacturing, or industrial services (preferred but not required).
Understanding of steel pickling, slitting, toll processing, or related coil processing operations is strongly required.
Strong understanding of steel production, processing, and end‑use markets.
Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently, manage territory travel, and meet with customers regularly.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM platforms.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally.
Strong problem‑solving and technical aptitude.
Knowledge of the steel supply chain and market landscape.
Relationship‑building and customer‑focused mindset.
Self‑motivated with proven ability to meet goals.
Organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple accounts.
