The Real Property Tax Appeals Commission for the District of Columbia ("Commission") reviews real property assessments and classifications and hears other appeals. The Commission has jurisdiction over any appeal timely filed with the Board of Real Property Assessments and Appeals in accordance with the provisions of § 47-82S.01(f-l). Responsibilities
Review real property assessments and classifications. Hear appeals related to real property assessments. Commission Membership and Requirements
Four full-time Commissioners. Full-time Commissioners must be active members of the District of Columbia Bar, District certified general real estate appraisers, certified public accountants, mortgage bankers, licensed District real estate brokers, or persons possessing significant real property experience. Full-time Commissioners must have at least 5 years of professional commercial real estate experience. Part-time members are compensated on an hourly basis and hear cases of single-family residential property or any noncommercial real property assessed during the administrative review at $3 million or less (or under the notice of assessment if the administrative review is unavailable). The Chairperson may assign part-time members to hear cases of other real property assessments. Qualifications
Active member of the District of Columbia Bar. Certified general real estate appraiser, certified public accountant, mortgage banker, licensed District real estate broker, or significant real property experience. At least 5 years of professional commercial real estate experience (for full-time positions).
