Providence Farm Collective (PFC) is a non-profit organization established in 2019 with a vision of empowering just and equitable access to food and farmland! PFC provides underserved communities and individuals in Western New York with land to farm; business and farming education; affordable fresh produce; a place to share cultural farming traditions and the social, emotional and health benefits of nature. Job Description PFC seeks a self-motivated, organized, and business-minded Markets Manager to operate and develop markets with the ultimate goal of supporting PFC’s farmers in creating viable farm businesses. This is a full time, year round salaried position. The Markets Manager will report directly to the Deputy Executive Director.
Lead PFC’s Farmers Market
Organize and operate a PFC’s International Farmers Market on Grant Street, Saturdays from June – October
Actively promote the market to increase customer base and sales
Aggregate Produce from Farmers
Facilitate purchasing of produce from farmers for resale to PFC’s marketing channels
Communicate with farmers, with assistance from the Deputy Executive Director, to coordinate timely harvest and purchase of produce for resale to PFC’s markets and wholesale accounts
Track farmers’ sales to PFC and pay farmers biweekly
Marketing
Market produce through new and existing sales channels: Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, farm store, wholesale accounts, Buffalo Public Schools, produce aggregation for food pantries program
Coordinate with program partners and farmers to develop new markets and maximize sales for farmers and PFC
Send weekly availability lists to wholesale accounts
Operate and Oversee PFC’s Diverse Markets
Assist in preparing for market, operating markets, and delivering products
Manage a 80-member CSA program including promotion, securing members, weekly CSA emails, customer relations, and CSA pickup
Coordinate multiple payment options including SNAP, DUFB, WIC, Farmers Market Checks, cash, and credit
Provide oversight and guidance to PFC employees and farmers to assist with the above tasks as necessary
Farmer Mentorship and Education
Work with program partners and PFC staff to develop appropriate market education for farmers
Provide technical assistance and feedback to farmers on appropriate harvest and post-harvest practices
Assist in teaching introductory workshops when appropriate
Provide additional mentorship to farmers as needed
Participate in professional development opportunities to continually build skills and knowledge resulting in improved mentorship
Record Keeping
Keep detailed financial records of sales, invoices, and farmer payments
Keep up to date on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP), Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB), Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) record keeping and reapplications as needed
Requirements / Qualifications
Hard working and positive
Excellent organization and record keeping skills
Proficient in Google Drive and Microsoft Suites
Ability to work well independently and with others
Ability to perform heavy lifting and physically demanding work
Experience with marketing and businesses in the agriculture/ food industry preferred
Personal transportation; open to using personal vehicle for deliveries preferred
Compensation Salary is $58,000.00, plus benefits, including 5 paid sick days, 25 paid vacation days, individual health and dental plans, and a 401k plan. At this time, PFC does not offer a 401k match.
