Eau Claire County
The Deputy Court Clerks provides complex court support for all case types within the court system requiring a high level of responsibility to the court including records management and customer service.
This position captures an objective record of events in order to facilitate the judicial process.
Applies knowledge of the Circuit Court, court practices, and legal terminology to m emorialize court proceedings by attending all court sessions, uses ability to take quick, accurate , legible minutes to record what transpired .
Utilizes ability to administer oaths, affirmations, and contents of court documents to administe r oaths to witnesses and juries, and maintain exhibits offered in a courtroom as evidence .
Preside s over Small Claims court appearances ; call s cases , pair s parties with mediators , and render s default judgments using effective oral and written communication skills .
Uses ability to organize and systematically handles a large volume of information, documents, and files to r eceive, process and issue voluminous court documents including, but not limited to, jail releases, warrants, and protective orders.
Appl ies rule s of W isconsin Appellate Procedure s , maintain s timeliness and proper procedure flow , and prepare s records for transmittal to Court of Appeals using skills in managing, prioritizing, and successfully completing multiple demands within deadlines .
Assist in the training and/or cross-training of L egal S pecialist IIs with ability to transfer knowledge of Circuit Court, court practices, and legal terminology .
Maintain s accurate Circuit Court case files using skills in personal computer operation utilizing a variety of standard and specialized software and online programs ; retains in compliance to retention guidelines (SCR 72); makes files available to the public ( WI. Stats 59.20(3)) .
Perform s other related duties as assigned or directed .
Associate degree in business administration, paralegal, or related field OR a high school diploma or GED plus two years working in a clerk of courts office including CCAP case management.
Three (3) years of experience in a progressively responsible administrative support role.
Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check. Must have valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and access to private transportation for work-related duties . Must possess and maintain personal automobile insurance in the amount of $100,000/$300,000. Experience in a legal or court-related environment, or a Clerk of Courts office, preferably as a L egal S pecialist II or Deputy Court Clerk .
Post-secondary coursework in criminal justice, legal, business, or related curriculum .
Experience in a large office setting .
Training using the State of Wisconsin Consolidated Court Automation Program (CCAP) software .
